The objective of our study was to examine whether weighting for joint surface area or recording of simultaneously tender and swollen joints increases the association of a reduced 28-joint articular index with clinical and outcome parameters. In a cross-sectional study we examined 61 consecutive outpatients with RA fulfilling the American Rheumatism Association 1987 revised criteria. Tender, swollen, and simultaneously tender and swollen joints were recorded. The association of 28- and 68-joint articular indices with clinical and outcome parameters were estimated with nonparametric correlation analyses. Weighting for joint surface yielded consistently increased correlation of clinical and outcome parameters with swollen and tender and swollen but not with tender joint counts. The correlation of the 28-joint articular and 68-articular indices with these parameters were similar. In conclusion, weighting for joint surface notably improves the information provided by swollen joint counts, whereas it does not appear to improve the information provided by tender joint counts.

Retroperitoneal robotic-assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty (R-RALP) is the commonest urologic procedure performed in children, entailing retroperitoneal CO2 insufflation and lateral decubitus, whose effects on cardiopulmonary variables are poorly known. We, therefore, studied hemodynamic and respiratory changes due to CO2 insufflation and lateral decubitus in children undergoing R-RALP and their effects on regional tissue oxygenation. Between 1/2021 and 7/2024, children affected by ureteropelvic joint obstruction (UPJO) underwent a pyeloplasty by R-RALP at Necker Enfants Malades Hospital (Paris, France), using a standardized surgical technique and a lung-protecting anesthetic protocol aimed to prevent hypercarbia.

In modern knee arthroplasty, surgeons increasingly aim for individualised implant selection based on data-driven decisions to improve patient satisfaction rates. The identification of an implant design that optimally fits to a patient's native kinematic patterns and functional requirements could provide a basis towards subject-specific phenotyping. The goal of this study was to achieve a first step towards identifying easily accessible and intuitive features that allow for discrimination between implant designs based on kinematic data.

The industrialization and urbanization along the Pearl River Delta (PRD) have exacerbated the issue of pollution in aquatic environments by organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs). Historical cumulative pollution from legacy OPFRs, combined with newly emerging OPFRs, has increased the severity and complexity of OPFR pollution in this region. Objective: We investigated the characteristics of hip, knee, and ankle joint reaction forces (JRFs) in stroke patients with spastic hemiplegia during sit-to-stand (Si-St) and stand-to-sit (St-Si) movements and explored the relationship between JRFs and joint moments.
Methods: Thirteen stroke patients with spastic hemiplegia and thirteen age-matched healthy subjects were recruited in this study. Three-dimensional motion capture system and force plates were employed to collect kinematic data and ground reaction forces during Si-St and St-Si tasks.
