Background: The pS2 protein is involved in the maintenance of the integrity of the gastrointestinal tract. In breast cancer pS2 can be demonstrated in at least half of the tumors and probably reflects the functional status of ER. Several features make it likely that pS2 is involved in growth regulation.
Patients And Methods: We have investigated the value of immunohistochemical pS2 determination as a prognostic factor in 339 breast cancer patients with long follow-up from one hospital.
Results: A prognostic role for pS2 could not be demonstrated considering disease-free and overall survival, although in pS2-negative tumors a trend for less locoregional relapse was found. However, in multivariate analysis pS2 showed independent prognostic value for post-relapse survival.
Conclusions: PS2 is an independent prognostic factor for post-relapse survival, most likely because it is a predictive factor for response to systemic therapy.

Background/aim: The impact of enfortumab vedotin (EV) dose reduction and/or interruption on its efficacy for advanced urothelial carcinoma (UC) is unclear.
Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed consecutive patients with advanced UC who received EV after the failure of platinum-based chemotherapy and immune checkpoint inhibitors from December 2021 to June 2024. Patients were categorized into three groups based on the calculated relative dose intensity (RDI): RDI<50%, RDI ≥50 to <80%, and RDI ≥80%.

Mutations in the presenilin (PS) genes are a predominant cause of familial Alzheimer's disease (fAD). An ortholog of PS in the genetic model organism Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) is sel-12.

Background/aim: The efficacy, safety, and liver toxicity of enfortumab vedotin (EV) for elderly advanced urothelial carcinoma (UC) patients and patients with a poor performance status (PS) are unclear.
Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the efficacy, safety, and liver toxicity of EV in elderly patients and patients with a poor PS between December 2021 and August 2023.
Results: Sixty-two patients (≥75 years old, n=22; PS≥2, n=10) were enrolled.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by the accumulation of abnormally folded amyloid β-protein (Aβ) in the brain parenchyma and phosphorylated tau in neurons. Presenilin (PS, PSEN) 1 and PS2 are essential components of γ-secretase, which is responsible for the cleavage of amyloid precursor protein (APP) to generate Aβ. PSEN mutations are associated with tau aggregation in frontotemporal dementia, regardless of the presence or absence of Aβ pathology.

Butyrate is a promising candidate for an antitumoral drug, as it promotes cancer cell apoptosis and reduces hormone receptor activity, while promoting differentiation and proliferation in normal cells. However, the effects of low-dose butyrate on breast cancer cell cultures are unclear. We explored the impact of sub-therapeutic doses of butyrate on estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) transcriptional activity in MCF-7 cells, using RT-qPCR, Western blot, wound-healing assays, and chromatin immunoprecipitation.
