Proteomic analysis of mouse soleus muscles affected by hindlimb unloading and reloading.

Muscle Nerve

November 2015

National Key Laboratory of Human Factors Engineering, China Astronaut Research and Training Center, No. 26 Beiqing Road, Beijing, 100094, P.R. Beijing, China.

Introduction: Disuse muscle atrophy, induced by prolonged space flight, bed rest, or denervation, is a common process with obvious changes in slow-twitch soleus muscles.

Methods: Proteomic analysis was performed on mouse soleus subjected to hindlimb unloading (HU) and hindlimb reloading (HR) to identify new dysregulated proteins.

Results: Following HU, the mass and cross-sectional area of muscle fibers decreased, but they recovered after HR.

Alzheimer disease periventricular white matter lesions exhibit specific proteomic profile alterations.

Neurochem Int

January 2013

Fundación Instituto Leloir and Instituto de Investigaciones Bioquímicas de Buenos Aires, Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET), Patricias Argentinas 435, Buenos Aires C1405BWE, Argentina.

The white matter (WM) represents approximately half the cerebrum volume and is profoundly affected in Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, both the WM responses to AD as well as potential influences of this compartment to dementia pathogenesis remain comparatively neglected. Neuroimaging studies have revealed WM alterations are commonly associated with AD and renewed interest in examining the pathologic basis and importance of these changes.

Changes in mitochondrial and sarcoplasmic proteins using proteinomics and Western blotting in hearts from copper-deficient rats were explored in this study. Also, key enzymes that are involved in cardiac energy metabolism via glycolysis and fatty acid oxidation and related transcription factors were determined. Rats were fed one of two diets: a copper-adequate diet containing 6 mg Cu/kg diet or a diet with less than 1 mg Cu/kg diet for 5 weeks.

Induction of hypertrophy in vitro by mechanical loading in adult rabbit myocardium.

Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol

December 2007

Department of Physiology and Cell Biology, The Ohio State University, 1645 Neil Avenue, Columbus, OH, USA.

To study myocardial hypertrophy under in vitro conditions, we developed an experimental system and protocol in which mechanical conditions of isolated multicellular myocardium can be controlled while function can be continuously assessed. This in vitro culture system now allows us to investigate how mechanical overload impacts on cardiac hypertrophy in the absence of systemic factors. In this system, small right ventricular rabbit trabeculae were subjected to different modes of mechanical load, while being electrically stimulated to contract at 1 Hz at 37 degrees C.

Comparative proteomic analysis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

Proteomics

July 2005

Laboratory for Cancer Research, College of Medicine, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, China.

Ranking as the fourth commonest cancer, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) represents one of the leading causes of cancer death in China. One of the main reasons for the low survival rate is that neoplasms in esophagus are not detected until they have invaded into surrounding tissues or spread throughout the body at advanced stages. A better understanding of the malignant mechanism and early diagnosis are important for fighting ESCC.
