Inadequate pain relief has been identified as a common problem after coronary artery bypass surgery, Understanding the pharmacology of analgesics commonly used after cardiovascular surgery is a fundamental part of effective pain management. The pharmacologic properties for two analgesic drug classes, opioid and nonopioid, are reviewed. Major drugs in each class are discussed in terms of their pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the accumulation of amyloid-β plaques and tau tangles, leading to cognitive decline and dementia. Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) is similar in structure to insulin and is crucial for cell growth, differentiation, and regulating oxidative stress, synaptic plasticity, and mitochondrial function. IGF-1 exerts its physiological effects by binding to the IGF-1 receptor (IGF-1R) and activating PI3K/Akt pathway.

Screening for pulmonary nodules (PN) using low-dose CT has proven effective in reducing lung cancer (LC) mortality. However, current treatments relying on follow-up and surgical excision fail to fully address clinical needs. Pathological angiogenesis plays a pivotal role in supplying oxygen necessary for the progression of PN to LC.

Over the past decade, Mass Administration of Medicines (MAM) has been a key strategy for controlling schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STHs) in Anambra State, Nigeria. This longitudinal study, conducted from 2017 to 2019, evaluated the impact of interventions for controlling schistosomiasis (SCH) and STHs in recipient communities. A total of 1,046 pupils aged 5 to 16 years were enrolled, with Kato-Katz and urine filtration methods used for faecal and urine sample analysis.

Infections impacting the central nervous system (CNS) constitute a substantial predisposing factor for the emergence of epileptic seizures. Given that epilepsy conventionally correlates with hippocampal sclerosis and neuronal degeneration, a potentially innovative avenue for therapeutic intervention involves fostering adult neurogenesis, a process primarily occurring within the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus (DG) through the differentiation of neural stem cells (NSC). While experimental seizures induced by chemoconvulsants or electrical stimulation transiently enhance neurogenesis, the effects of encephalitis and the resultant virus-induced seizures remain inadequately understood.

Background: Oxygen therapy is critical and vital treatment for hypoxemia and respiratory distress, however, access to reliable oxygen systems remains limited in SSA. Despite WHO initiatives that distributed over 30,000 OC oxygen concentrators worldwide, SSA faces significant challenges related to their maintenance and use, due to harsh environmental conditions, technical skill shortages and inadequate infrastructure. This review aims to systematically identify and assess the literature on OC design adaptations, maintenance challenges, and knowledge gaps in SSA, providing actionable recommendations to inform innovative and context-sensitive solutions to improve healthcare delivery in the region.
