Somatic intrachromosomal recombination (SICR) can result in chromosomal inversion and deletion, mechanisms which are important in carcinogenesis. We have utilised a transgenic mouse model to study SICR inversion events in spleen cells. The transgenic construct is designed so that expression of an Escherichia coli lacZ transgene only occurs in a cell when an SICR inversion event occurs in the region of the transgene. The inversion events can then be detected by histochemical staining of frozen spleen sections for transgene expression and by polymerase chain reaction across the inversion breakpoints. The spontaneous inversion frequency in spleen rose 2-fold from 1.54 +/- 0.24 x 10(-4) (mean +/- SE) in 4-month-old transgenic mice to 3.12 +/- 0.67 x 10(-4) in 22-month-old mice. Four- or 8-month-old mice were treated with a single intraperitoneal injection of cyclophosphamide, with doses ranging from 0.01 to 100 mg/kg. The animals were killed 3 days after treatment. A significant induction of SICR inversions was detected at all doses with a 3.2-fold maximum induction of inversions detected at 10 mg/kg. These results suggest that the transgenic mouse model used here may be a sensitive model for studying the role of SICR in mutation and in studying risk assessment of environmental DNA-damaging agents.

Objective: Recent studies have indicated a close relationship between intracranial arterial stenosis and white matter hyperintensities (WMHs), but few have reported on the correlation between the characteristics of intracranial arterial wall plaques and WMHs. The aim of this study was to comprehensively assess the correlation between intracranial atherosclerosis plaques and WMHs using 3.0T high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HR-MRI).

Precipitable water vapor (PWV) is an important indicator to characterize the spatial and temporal variability of water vapor. A high spatial and temporal resolution of atmospheric precipitable water can be obtained using ground-based GNSS, but its inversion accuracy is usually limited by the weighted mean temperature, Tm. For this reason, based on the data of 17 ground-based GNSS stations and water vapor reanalysis products over 2 years in the Hong Kong region, a new model for water vapor inversion without the Tm parameter is established by deep learning in this paper, the research results showed that, compared with the PWV information calculated by the traditional model using Tm parameter, the accuracy of the PWV retrieved by the new model proposed in this paper is higher, and its accuracy index parameters BIAS, MAE, and RMSE are improved by 38% on average.

Purpose: Silent brain infarcts, sometimes appearing as incidental lacunes in patients with unknown history of vascular event, are linked to dementia, gait disturbances and depression. We observed that some cavitating lacunes were only visible on b0-diffusion-weighted-imaging (b0-DWI: T2-weighted without diffusion gradients) when T2-weighted-spin-echo (T2-SE) was unavailable. We aimed to evaluate the additional value of b0-DWI in detecting cavitating lacunes.

The elemental imaging of laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) provides spatial information on elements and therefore can further investigate the growth or evolution processes of an analyte. However, the accurate determination of spatial information is limited by the decoupling between the elemental distribution and mass spectrometry signals. This phenomenon, which is more distinct when high-diffusion ablation cells are used, arises from the overlap of ablation and the transport dispersion of aerosols.

Background: The presence of diffuse brain damage in normal-appearing white matter (NAWM) and gray matter (NAGM) in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) remains controversial. We aimed to address this controversy by applying a multiparametric MRI approach. Additionally, the association between MRI metrics and clinical variables was explored.
