Background: The currently used methods for the detection of methylene tetrahydrofolic acid reductase (MTHFR) C677T single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) are either time-consuming or expensive. In this study, we devised an accurate, rapid and easy-to-use SNP detection system based on fluorescent primers amplification refractory mutation system qPCR, known as FP ARMS-qPCR.

Methods: Fluorescent primers (FPs) modified by fluorescent dye or quencher near the 3' terminal thymine were designed.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most prevalent and aggressive brain tumor found in adult humans with a poor prognosis and average survival of 14-15 months. In order to have a comprehensive understanding of proteome and identify novel therapeutic targets, this study focused mainly on the differentially abundant proteins (DAPs) of -induced GBM. is a constitutively active Ras mutant form essential for tumor progression by continuously activating signaling pathways leading to uncontrolled tumor growth.

The enzyme serine hydroxymethyltransferase (SHMT) plays a key role in folate metabolism and is conserved in all kingdoms of life. SHMT is a pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP) - dependent enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of L-serine and (6S)-tetrahydrofolate to glycine and 5,10-methylene tetrahydrofolate. Crystal structures of multiple members of the SHMT family have shown that the enzyme has a single conserved cis proline, which is located near the active site.

The gastrointestinal disease cryptosporidiosis, caused by the genus , is a common cause of diarrheal diseases in children, particularly in developing countries and frequently fatal in immunocompromised individuals. ()-specific bifunctional dihydrofolate reductase-thymidylate synthase (DHFR-TS) has been a molecular target for inhibitor design. (.
