Fibrillar collagen in the glomeruli is considered specific of the nail-patella syndrome. A new nephropathy with diffuse intraglomerular deposition of type III collagen without nail and skeletal abnormalities has been described. We report the case of a 26-year-old woman who presented persistent proteinuria, hematuria, deafness without nail and skeletal abnormalities. The renal biopsy showed focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis by light microscopy. The electron microscopy revealed the presence of massive fibrillar collagen within the mesangial matriz and the basement membrane. This is the first patient reported in our country. We emphasize the usefulness of electron microscopy in the study of glomerular diseases.

Biological tissues are exposed to X-rays in medical applications (such as diagnosis and radiotherapy) and in research studies (for example microcomputed X-ray tomography: microCT). Fibrosis is a pathological condition characterized by excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) components, particularly collagens, leading to tissue scarring and organ dysfunction. In fibrosis, an imbalance between collagen synthesis (fibrogenesis) and degradation (fibrolysis) results in the deposition of fibrillar collagens disrupting the structural integrity of the ECM and, consequently, the tissue architecture. Fibrosis is associated with a wide range of chronic diseases, including liver cirrhosis, kidney fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis, and autoimmune diseases.

Corneal lenticules can be deposited and retrieved for vision-restoring surgeries. Extended transportation logistical delays from the lenticule bank to the clinic could be a concern. Methods: Ultracentrifugation was used to extract exosomes from rat adipose tissue. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Western blot, and nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA) were used to characterize the exosomes.
