The objective of this study was to assess the use of GnRH in a controlled breeding program (7 d prior to the second of two injections of PGF2 alpha, 14 d apart) as a means to improve the expression and detection of estrus, first service conception rate, and overall pregnancy rate of lactating dairy cows. On 17 farms, 348 cows were assigned randomly to either of two breeding programs prior to first insemination. Cows in both programs received PGF2 alpha approximately 2 wk prior to the end of a herd-specific voluntary waiting period for breeding. One group received GnRH 1 wk later, 7 d prior to the second of two injections of PGF2 alpha. Control cows received saline and a second injection of PGF2 alpha at corresponding times. Cows were observed for 7 d and were bred by artificial insemination following detection of estrus. There were no differences between programs in estrus detection rate, observed signs of estrus, conception rate, days to first service, or interval from calving to conception. The means and standard deviations of the interval from PGF2 alpha to estrus were not different between programs. Administration of GnRH 1 wk prior to PGF2 alpha did not alter the expression of estrus or fertility in lactating dairy cows. In this study population, no advantage was found for the addition of GnRH to a controlled breeding program that was based on two administrations of PGF2 alpha at a 14-d interval.

The main objectives of the present study were to determine the effects of presynchronizing with a 1.0 g intravaginal progesterone device (IVPD) and prostaglandin F2α and to assess the effects of re-utilization of IVPD in a 2x2 factorial design, on the ovulatory response to first GnRH, ovarian status at different protocol stages, estrus expression and fertility in beef heifers submitted to a 5d-CO-Synch + Progesterone (P4) protocol. Beef heifers (n = 564) were assigned to 1 of 2 treatments at D-15: Pres5 (n = 283), where heifers received a (IVPD) for 5 days and administration of prostaglandin F2α (25 mg of dinoprost) at D-10; and Control (n = 281), where heifers received no treatment.

Long-term use of topical prostaglandins might initiate chronic conjunctival inflammation, leading to poor outcomes of glaucoma surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the immunoexpression pattern of HSP70, CTGF, SNAIL, aSMA, cMYB, and HIFa in the conjunctiva, episclera, and deep sclera in patients with glaucoma undergoing deep sclerectomy in order to establish an association between staining intensities and prostaglandin F2 (PGF2) treatment. Double immunofluorescence (HSP70, CTGF, SNAIL, aSMA, cMYB, and HIFa) was performed on conjunctiva, episclera, and deep sclera samples, which were obtained from 23 patients treated with PGF2 and 8 patients without PGF2 treatment.

The aims of this study were to: 1) evaluate the impact of intravaginal progesterone (P4) inserts containing different amounts of P4 on pregnancy rates of predominantly Bos taurus beef cows exposed to fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) using estradiol and P4-based synchronization protocols, and 2) evaluate the impact of delayed luteolysis on the fertility of cows receiving P4 insert with less P4. Cows (n = 1744) were randomly assigned to 1 of 3 treatments: 1) 2.0 mg of estradiol benzoate together with an intravaginal P4-releasing insert containing 1.

Introduction: Mucopolysaccharidosis type II (MPS II) is caused by deficiency of the enzyme iduronate-2-sulfatase; one possible therapy for MPS II is hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). It is established that there is excessive production of reactive species in MPS II patients, which can trigger several processes, such as the inflammatory cascade.
Objectives: Our aim was to outline an inflammatory profile and lipoperoxidation of MPS II patients for a better understanding of disease and possible benefits that HSCT can bring in these processes.
