Glomerular disease often accompanies a wide variety of liver diseases, including acute or chronic hepatitis. A striking association between hepatitis B virus and glomerulonephritis particularly membranous glomerulonephritis has been reported by various authors. It is not surprising, therefore, that hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection has been recently associated with the development of various types of glomerulonephritis. The principal type of glomerulonephritis associated with HCV infection is either cryoglobulinemic or non-cryoglobulinemic membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis. However, other types of glomerular lesions were seen in the clinical course of HCV infection. We report a rare case of a 20-year-old woman who developed rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN) during the course of the active HCV infection. Whether this case represents a true association or a coincidental association is not known.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global health issue. Drug-resistant TB and comorbidities exacerbate its burden, influencing treatment outcomes and healthcare utilization. Despite the growing prevalence of TB comorbidities, research often focuses on single comorbidities rather than comorbidity patterns.

The prevalence of viral hepatitis among people in prisons is higher than in the general population. Screening, treatment and vaccination programmes exist within prisons to reduce the incidence of hepatitis, although lower uptake has often been reported compared to similar programmes outside of prisons. We conducted a systematic review of qualitative evidence to explore the barriers and facilitators to hepatitis B and C reduction programmes in prisons from the perspectives of people in prison, custodial staff and prison healthcare staff.

Long-term control of viral replication relies on the efficient differentiation of memory T cells into effector T cells during secondary immune responses. Recent findings have identified T cell precursors for both memory and exhausted T cells, suggesting the existence of progenitor-like effector T cells. These cells can persist without antigenic challenge but expand and acquire effector functions upon recall immune responses.

Lactoferrin (Lf) is a naturally occurring glycoprotein known for its antiviral and antibacterial properties and is present in various physiological fluids. Numerous studies have demonstrated its antiviral effectiveness against multiple viruses, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), influenza virus (IFV), herpes simplex virus (HSV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Lf, a vital component of the mucosal defense system, plays a crucial role in inhibiting viral infection by binding to both host cells and viral particles, such as the Hepatitis C virus (HCV).

Background: The Veterans Aging Cohort Study (VACS) Index is a summary measure of routinely obtained clinical variables that predicts numerous health outcomes. Since there are currently no tools to predict acute kidney injury (AKI) in persons with HIV (PWH), we investigated the association of preadmission VACS Index with hospital AKI in PWH.
Methods: We conducted an observational study of PWH hospitalized in a New York City health system between 2010-2019.
