Objective: To compare head circumference measurements of the well nourished with those of the malnourished children for each sex.
Design: Cross sectional.
Setting: Imesi, Ile-Ife village, Nigeria.
Subjects: 644 children in the first six years of life.
Main Outcome Measures: Head circumference.
Results: The mean head circumference values of malnourished children of both sexes fell mostly below the values for their well nourished age mates. The curve for well nourished girls fell by a little below, and for malnourished girls by over two standard deviations below Tanner's 50th percentile curve. For the boys, the curve for the malnourished children fell by over one standard deviation below the curve for their well nourished age mates.
Conclusion: The significant reductions in head circumferences found in malnourished children may have serious implications for their future performance and achievement. Therefore, sufficient community concern and appropriate world action aimed at eradicating protein energy malnutrition is solicited.

The path to survival for pathogenic organisms is not straightforward. Pathogens require a set of enzymes for tissue damage generation and to obtain nourishment, as well as a toolbox full of alternatives to bypass host defense mechanisms. Our group has shown that the parasitic protist encodes for 14 sphingomyelinases (SMases); one of them (acid sphingomyelinase 6, aSMase6) is involved in repairing membrane damage and exhibits hemolytic activity.

Background: Severely injured patients may suffer from acute disease-related or injury-related malnutrition involving a marked inflammatory response. This study investigated the prevalence and incidence of malnutrition and its relation with complications in severely injured patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).
Methods: This observational prospective cohort study included severely injured patients (Injury Severity Score ≥ 16), admitted to the ICU of five level-1 trauma centers in the Netherlands and United States.
Purpose: Oral health problems in patients with cancer can substantially affect their quality of life, treatment outcomes, and overall nutritional well-being. This study investigated the relationship between nutritional status and self-reported oral health complaints in patients with cancer.
Materials And Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among patients with cancer at the King Saud University Medical City Oncology Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Nutrition science has been represented as biomedical, environmental, societal and economic field, but quantum biology is sidestepped, thereby obscuring cognate problems and solutions. We are generally nourished for health, optimal well-being, longevity and personal security through sustainable livelihoods. Our nourish-ments include not only food and energy but also light from the sun, the firmament and the earth itself, along with information transmitted in subatomic particles and electromagnetic wave forms.

Currently, the primary clinical approach for treating myocardial infarction (MI) is percutaneous coronary intervention. However, the myocardial salvage rate remains low for patients with advanced disease.
