During 1995, among 1105 HIV patients explored in our department, 64 presented a deep fungic infection (5.8%). The yeast was searched for in cerebrospinal fluid, blood, urine, and bronchoalveolar aspiration. Isolated germs were Cryptococcus neoformans (95%), Candida tropicalis (1 case), Saccharomyces cerevisiae (1 case) et Aspergillus fumigatus (1 case). Results of treatment with amphotericin B were: recovery (9%), clinical success (11%), out of sight (14%), letality (66%), relapse (23%) and side effects (19%). We emphasized diagnostical and therapeutical difficulties, and bad prognostic of mycoses in patients with AIDS.

Ammonia oxidizers are key players in the biogeochemical nitrogen cycle. However, in critical ecological zones such as estuaries, especially those affected by widespread anthropogenic dam control, our understanding of their occurrence, ecological performance, and survival strategies remains elusive. Here, we sampled sediments along the Haihe River-Estuary continuum in China, controlled by the Haihe Tidal Gate, and employed a combination of biochemical and metagenomic approaches to investigate the abundance, activity, and composition of ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA), ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB), and complete ammonia oxidizers (comammox).

Patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are at high risk of developing invasive fungal disease (IFD) with high morbidity and attributable mortality, including those who were received Venetoclax treatment. Venetoclax, a new oral Bcl-2 inhibitor, targets tumor cells' ability to induce apoptosis. It is the only one which is approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treating newly diagnosed AML patients who are 75 years of age or older and are ineligible for intensive induction chemotherapy due to existing comorbidities.

This comprehensive review explores the pivotal roles of glycation and oxidative stress in the aging process of the skin, emphasizing their targeted therapeutic applications in aesthetic and regenerative medicine, as well as anti-aging interventions. Glycation, a biochemical process involving the non-enzymatic attachment of sugars to proteins, lipids, or nucleic acids, culminates in the formation of Advanced Glycation End products (AGEs). These AGEs are significant contributors to aging and various chronic ailments, triggering oxidative stress and inflammatory pathways, thereby manifesting as wrinkles, diminished skin elasticity, and other age-related dermal alterations.

Background: Understanding how ectotherms manage energy in response to temperature is crucial for predicting their responses to climate change. However, the complex interplay between developmental and adult thermal conditions on total energy stores remains poorly understood. Here, we present the first comprehensive quantification of this relationship in Drosophila melanogaster, a model ectotherm, across its entire thermal tolerance range.
