Objectives: This study sought to study the change in autonomic tone that precedes the initiation of paroxysmal atrial flutter.
Background: An abrupt change in the autonomic tone of the heart is an important initiating factor in the pathogenesis of ventricular tachyarrhythmias and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Whether the autonomic tone has a role in the initiation of paroxysmal atrial flutter has not been reported.
Methods: Holter electrocardiographic recording was used to investigate the changes in heart rate variability before the onset of paroxysmal atrial flutter.
Results: A total of 12 patients with paroxysmal atrial flutter were analyzed. An increase in the normalized value of the low frequency (LF) component and the LF/high frequency (HF) ratio and a decrease in the normalized value of the HF component began at 6 min before the onset of episodes of paroxysmal atrial flutter, which indicated that sympathovagal balance had shifted to more sympathetic predominance.
Conclusions: An increase in sympathetic modulation or vagal withdrawal, or both, may facilitate the initiation of atrial flutter.

Background: The superior vena cava (SVC) acts as a non-pulmonary vein (PV) trigger for atrial fibrillation (AF) in 2%-6% of patients and harbours 25%-40% of non-PV foci. Approximately 10% of patients with AF have epicardial connections (ECs) between the atrium and PV inside the PV isolation lines, which are associated with AF recurrence. However, the contribution of EC(s) between the SVC and right atrium (RA) to subsequent AF remains unknown.

Background: Compared to the conventional anion gap, the albumin-corrected anion gap (ACAG) offers a more precise measure of acid-base imbalance, providing superior prognostic insight. However, the prognostic relevance of ACAG in individuals of atrial fibrillation (AF) remains insufficiently explored. This research seeks to evaluate the correlation between ACAG levels and mortality risk in individuals with AF.

Introduction And Objectives: Pulmonary vein (PV) isolation is one of the cornerstones of rhythm-control therapy for symptomatic atrial fibrillation (AF) patients. Pulsed field ablation (PFA) is a novel ablation modality that involves the application of electrical pulses causing cellular death, and it has preferential tissue specificity. In this study, we aimed to share a one-year single center experience of AF ablation with PFA.

Left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC) is a rare primary cardiomyopathy with genetic etiology, resulting from an abnormality of myocardial development during embryogenesis. It carries an elevated risk of left ventricular dysfunction, thromboembolic events and malignant arrhythmias. We report the case of LVNC associated with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and ankyrin 2 () mutation at the genetic test.

Purpose: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is effective in treating atrial fibrillation (AF), but outcomes are worse for persistent AF (persAF) patients than paroxysmal AF (PAF) patients. The study aimed to identify differences in left atrial (LA) and left atrial appendage (LAA) anatomy in different AF types.
Methods: In a single-center observational study, a blinded retrospective analysis of preprocedural cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA) images was performed.
