The procedure for studying skin capillaries using vital capillary microscopy is described. Capillary changes take place in patients with reduced arterial circulation, and these are examined in the lower and upper (nailfold) extremity. Dynamic capillaroscopy is a technique for measuring capillary blood cell velocity. The calculation can be performed simply using a computerized system and serves as a useful diagnostic tool in the study of nailfold capillaries. These investigations are applicable in the context of increased prevalence of macro- and microangiopathy associated with diabetes mellitus.

The labyrinthian fetoplacental capillary network is vital for proper nourishment of the developing embryo. Dysfunction of the maternal-fetal circulation is a primary cause of placental insufficiency. Here, we show that the spatial zonation of the murine placental labyrinth vasculature is controlled by flow-regulated epigenetic mechanisms.

Complex limb injuries are combination injuries that involve all components of a limb's tissue, such as skin, bone with its surrounding soft tissue cover, and neurovascular elements. Complex limb trauma often has a background of a significant mechanism of injuries such as high-velocity road traffic accidents, ballistic injuries, industrial accidents, and other major mechanisms of injuries which involve high amounts of energy transfer through these tissue layers. These injuries pose a major challenge to trauma and orthopaedic surgeons.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) are debilitating diseases associated with divergent histopathological changes in the lungs. At present, due to cost and technical limitations, profiling cell types is not practical in large epidemiology cohorts (n > 1000). Here, we used computational deconvolution to identify cell types in COPD and IPF lungs whose abundances and cell type-specific gene expression are associated with disease diagnosis and severity.

The Mexican Health and Aging Study (MHAS) is one of the largest ongoing longitudinal studies of aging in Latin America, with six waves over 20 years. MHAS includes sociodemographic, economic, and health data from a nationally representative sample of adults 50 years and older in urban and rural Mexico. MHAS is designed to study the impact of diseases on adults' health, function, and mortality.

Repair of the pulmonary vascular bed and the origin of new vasculature remain underexplored despite the critical necessity to meet oxygen demands after injury. Given their critical role in angiogenesis in other settings, we investigated the role of venous endothelial cells in endothelial regeneration after adult lung injury. Here we identified Slc6a2 as a marker of pulmonary venous endothelial cells and generated a venous-specific, inducible Cre mouse line.
