Traditional dental research paradigms often lack relevance in marginalized cultural contexts due to inherent biases and misalignment with local values. For Pacific Islanders, this issue is pronounced, as they face serious oral health challenges while remaining underrepresented in scientific discourse. In response, the authors developed the Pacific Islands Dental Research Framework (PIDRF), a culturally informed, community-driven model that directly addresses these limitations in conventional Western approaches.

Objective More patients visit oral surgery outpatient clinics from evening to night to treat persistent gingival bleeding (PGB) related to periodontal disease (PD) (PD-PGB). In this case study, an all-ceramic (Emax) crown and a post and core restoration are used to successfully treat external inflammatory root resorption (EIRR) in a mandibular molar. A 21-year-old male patient was diagnosed with EIRR and hypercementosis after presenting with pain and significant damage to his lower right first molar. The patient chose a post and core restoration over extraction and implant placement due to budgetary constraints.

A dentigerous cyst (DC) is the most common developmental cystic lesion of the jaws. Histologically, these cysts derive from the odontogenic epithelium that includes the reduced enamel epithelium, epithelial cell rests of Serres, and epithelial cell rests of Malassez. Radiographically, DCs are usually presented as well-defined radiolucencies associated with the crown of an unerupted tooth at the level of the cementoenamel junction (CEJ).
