Rabbit antibodies against D. pteronyssinus whole culture extract were rendered specific to mite antigens by immunoabsorption with extract of human dander. Using the absorbed antibodies, an extract of a mite culture gave rise to 15 peaks in crossed immunoelectrophoresis and to a titer of 512 in counter-immunoelectrophoresis. When applied to dust samples from the homes of allergic patients, counterimmunoelectrophoresis gave reproducible results within an error of 1 titer-step. Mite antigens were detected in 64% of 105 dust samples investigated. The titer correlated well (P less than 0.005) with the concentration of Dermatophagoides bodies, found in 13 mattress dust samples by microscopy. Advantages and limitations of immunochemical quantitations of house dust mites in dust samples is discussed in relation to investigations by microscopy.

Thiourea vulcanization accelerators (TVAs) have been detected in various household dust samples, indicating their widespread human exposure. Until now, the occurrence of TVAs in human urine, a suitable matrix for assessing human exposure, has remained unknown. The present study comprehensively examined eight kinds of TVAs in urine samples (n = 277) from participants living in Taizhou, China.

Biomagnetic monitoring has rapidly emerged as a valuable tool in urban atmospheric pollution (UAP) assessment due to its high spatial resolution, complementing traditional monitoring systems. This review systematically elucidates the principles of plant dust retention and the factors influencing it, while also reviewing the advancements in global research on UAP monitoring through the magnetic properties of various plant species. We provide a comprehensive analysis of the current applications of biomagnetic monitoring in UAP and identify critical challenges, including species-specific monitoring discrepancies, complex pollution sources, and non-standardized sample preparation methods.

Introduction: Respiratory disorders pose a serious health risk for quarry workers exposed to dust, as they are a leading source of morbidity and mortality globally, often resulting in irreversible lung conditions. This study assessed the prevalence and determinants of restrictive disorder among quarry workers in Umuoghara quarry site, Ebonyi State.
Methods: This study was done on quarry workers at the Umuoghara quarry site, Ebonyi State.

For millennia mud has been utilized to make brick for the construction of both residential as well as architectural purposes. However, concerns regarding their vulnerability to different kinds of hazards due to their weak mechanical properties and durability have emerged. This study addressed the global challenge of developing sustainable and affordable construction materials, particularly in resource-constrained regions.

Understanding the solubility dynamics of elements during wet deposition is crucial for assessing their environmental impacts. In this study, we investigated the solubility behaviour of various elements originating from natural and anthropogenic sources using a dataset of 106 samples describing the sequential collections of 8 rainfall events. Our results reveal distinct solubility patterns depending on the type of event, with mineral-dust events exhibiting lower solubility and anthropogenic events displaying higher solubility, in relation with dust content and pH.
