Unlabelled: In a prospective study, we correlated the washout rates of 99mTc-sestamibi (MIBI) and the degree of MIBI accumulation with the expression of P-glycoprotein (Pgp) in tumor tissues in a total of 46 patients with lung cancer.
Methods: All patients underwent early (30 min) and delayed (3 hr) MIBI imaging and bronchoscopic biopsy before initiation of chemo- or radiotherapy. The interval between biopsy and imaging varied between 2 and 10 days. All patients had radiologically detectable tumors. Immunohistochemical studies were performed on paraffin sections using a monoclonal antibody, JSB-1, developed against the internal epitope of Pgp. Normal tissue and tumor washout rates and tumor-to-background ratios were correlated with the level of Pgp expression.
Results: There was an inverse correlation between tumor-to-background ratios and the density of Pgp (p = 0.001), whereas there was no appreciable correlation between tumor washout rates of MIBI and the level of Pgp expression (p = 0.414).
Conclusion: The current data strongly suggest that, although the reduced ability for the tumors to accumulate MIBI correlates well with the increased levels of Pgp expression, tumor washout rates of MIBI do not correlate with the density of Pgp in tumor tissues. Our results also warrant additional research for correlating immunohistological and imaging findings with messenger RNA levels determined by polymerase chain reaction and flow cytometry.

The remediation of oil-contaminated soil poses significant environmental challenges, often necessitating innovative approaches for effective and sustainable solutions. This study focuses on the synthesis, characterisation, and application of biodegradable capsules loaded with surfactant for enhanced oil remediation of a clean sand. By controlling the release properties of capsules, the research aims to overcome the limitations of conventional surfactant-based remediation methods, such as rapid washout and reduced efficacy over time.

Stress and psychological disorders are substantial public health concerns, necessitating innovative therapeutic strategies. This study investigated the psychophysiological benefits of nature-based soundscapes, drawing on the biophilia hypothesis. Using a randomized, acute cross-over design, 53 healthy participants experienced either a nature-based or a reference soundscape for 10 min, with a 2-min washout period.

A pilot study was conducted to investigate the effect of four weeks of creatine monohydrate (CrM) on vascular endothelial function in older adults. In a double-blind, randomized crossover trial, twelve sedentary, healthy older adults were allocated to either the CrM or placebo (PL) group for four weeks, at a dose of 4 × 5 g/day for 5 days, followed by 1 × 5 g/day for 23 days. Macrovascular function (flow-mediated dilation [FMD%], normalized FMD%, brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity [baPWV], pulse wave analysis [PWA]), microvascular function (microvascular reperfusion rate [% StO/sec]), and biomarkers of vascular function (tetrahydrobiopterin [BH], malondialdehyde [MDA], oxidized low-density lipoprotein [oxLDL], glucose, lipids) were assessed pre- and post-supplementation with a four-week washout period.

Objective: Molecular testing is recommended for risk stratification of atypia of undetermined significance (AUS) nodules in the USA; however, it is not routinely performed in some countries owing to limited availability and affordability. Here, we propose a risk stratification algorithm for AUS nodules when molecular testing is unavailable.
Methods: We examined 304 (4.

: This study aimed to determine the minimal effective dose of indocyanine green (ICG) required for accurately assessing colonic perfusion during laparoscopic colorectal surgery using a laser-assisted laparoscopic near-infrared (NIR) camera system. : In 15 patients with colorectal cancer undergoing right hemicolectomy, the left branch of the middle colic artery was preserved, and ICG angiography was performed in the transverse colon. To determine the optimal ICG dose, experimental doses of 0.
