Article Abstract

Patients who had an increase in their serum amyloid type A level of > 100% in the first 24 hours after percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) and also developed a positive antibody result (antinuclear factor or anticardiolipin), had a relative risk of 10.6 for developing restenosis in the first year after PTCA.

Myocardial ischaemia is a decompensation of the oxygen supply and demand ratio, often caused by coronary atherosclerosis. During the initial stage of ischaemia, the electrical activity of the heart is disrupted, increasing the risk of malignant arrhythmias. The aim of this study is to understand the differential behaviour of the ECG during occlusion of both the left anterior descending (LAD) and right anterior coronary artery (RCA), respectively, using spatio-temporal quantifiers from information theory.

Restenosis remains a long-standing limitation to effectively maintain functional blood flow after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). While the use of drug-coated balloons (DCBs) containing antiproliferative drugs has improved patient outcomes, limited tissue transfer and poor therapeutic targeting capabilities contribute to off-target cytotoxicity, precluding adequate endothelial repair. In this work, a DCB system was designed and tested to achieve defined arterial delivery of an antirestenosis therapeutic candidate, cadherin-2 (N-cadherin) mimetic peptides (NCad), shown to selectively inhibit smooth muscle cell migration and limit intimal thickening in early animal PTA models.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the role of inflammation-related biomarkers (SII, SIRI, NLR, PLR) in predicting mid-term mortality and restenosis in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD).
  • During an average follow-up of about 21 months, researchers found that higher levels of these biomarkers correlated with increased mortality rates, particularly highlighting NLR as a significant independent risk factor.
  • However, no significant links were established between these biomarkers and the occurrence of restenosis in the study participants.

Coronary artery anomalies (CAAs) are rare and challenging, with increased diagnoses due to advanced cardiovascular imaging, even in low-income countries where diagnostic and therapeutic approaches can be difficult. This case report details a 65-year-old Black male patient with a history of hypertension and smoking who presented with a myocardial infarction. Despite no significant abnormalities apart from the infarction, invasive coronary angiography revealed a dominant right coronary artery (RCA) and an anomalous left main coronary artery (LMCA) originating from the right coronary sinus, bifurcating into the left anterior descending artery and circumflex artery.

Background: Little is known about the similarity of microcirculation assessment outcomes performed with regadenoson and adenosine. The aim of the current study was to compare coronary flow reserve (CFR) and index of microcirculatory resistance (IMR) assessment using adenosine and regadenoson, and to evaluate predictors regarding the size of differences.

Methods: 44 patients were enrolled and diagnosed between 2021 and 2023.
