Unlabelled: MR-20 was administered to 37 lung cancer patients who presented with nephrotoxicity due to cisplatin (CDDP) treatment in an 11-institution cooperative trial during the period from September 1990 through March 1992 to study its suppressive effect on the nephrotoxicity as well as its safety. The results are reported in this paper.

Methods: MR-20 was administered at 3 daily doses, ie. 150,000, 300,000 and 600,000 units, in a nonblind manner. An efficacy rate of 27.3% was achieved in the group at 150,000 units; 44.4% in the group at 300,000 units; and 45.5% in the group at 600,000 units. Serum Cr levels remained significantly lower in the group at 300,000 units during the treatment period than in the screening period. No adverse reactions to MR-20 were observed. According to the above results, it was anticipated that MR-20 would suppress the nephrotoxicity of CDDP treatment and be safe, and that the drug at a dose of 300,000 units daily would be useful in suppressing the nephrotoxicity.

As the search for effective treatments for COVID-19 continues, the high mortality rate among critically ill patients in Intensive Care Units (ICU) presents a profound challenge. This study explores the potential benefits of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as a supplementary treatment for severe COVID-19. A total of 110 critically ill COVID-19 patients at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Vulcan Hill Hospital between Feb.

Recent research consensus has highlighted the role of intestinal luminal factors in the association between intestinal microenvironment homeostasis and food allergy. However, the association between intestinal immune homeostasis and food allergy-related proteomic features remains elusive. In this study, we aimed to investigate the changes in gluten allergy (GA)-defined phenotypes and endotypes and intestinal microenvironment factors in BALB/c mice and linked GA to colonic proteomic signatures.

pH-dependent solubility prediction for optimized drug absorption and compound uptake by plants.

Bayer AG, Pharmaceuticals, Computational Molecular Design, Aprather Weg 18a, 42096, Wuppertal, Germany.

Aqueous solubility is the most important physicochemical property for agrochemical and drug candidates and a prerequisite for uptake, distribution, transport, and finally the bioavailability in living species. We here present the first-ever direct machine learning models for pH-dependent solubility in water. For this, we combined almost 300000 data points from 11 solubility assays performed over 24 years and over one million data points from lipophilicity and melting point experiments.

Impact of a Coal-Fired Power Plant Shutdown Campaign on Heavy Metal Emissions in China.

Environ Sci Technol

December 2019

Institute of Blue and Green Development , Shandong University, Weihai 264209 , Shandong , P. R. China.

Recently, China has committed to decommissioning the heavy metal (HM) intensive coal-fired power plants (CFPPs), small units especially, yet a quantitative assessment for the impact on HM emissions remains poorly understood. This study, for the first time, compiles a plant-specific inventory for six HMs (Hg, As, Se, Pb, Cd, and Cr) avoided by CFPPs decommissioned in China during the 12th Five Year Plan period. The reduced HM amounts to 271.

Safety and efficacy of intra-articular tranexamic acid injection without drainage on blood loss in total knee arthroplasty: A randomized clinical trial.

Int J Surg

August 2015

Tianjin Medical University, General Hospital, Orthopedics Department, 300052 Tianjin, China; Department of Immunology, Tianjin Medical University, 300070 Tianjin, China. Electronic address:

Background: Major blood loss is unavoidable after primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The aim of this study was to determine if tranexamic acid (TXA) can reduce major blood loss following TKA.

Methods: In this double-blind, randomized, placebo-control trial, 60 patients treated with unilateral primary cement TKA between August 1st 2013 and September 30th 2013 were randomized into TXA 500 mg intra-articular injection without drainage (test group, 30 knees) and 30 patients with saline intra-articular injection (control group, 30 knees).
