The effect of lysozyme dimer (20 micrograms/kg) injected i.p. once or four times to sheep erythrocytes-immunized mice on the secondary humoral response was studied with respect to the time of exposure to the drug in relation to priming and challenge. It has been found that lysozyme dimer potentiates secondary humoral response to SRBC; as a result, the number of splenocytes producing hemolytic anti-SRBC antibodies (PFC) and anti-SRBC hemagglutinin titers, especially 2-mercaptoethanol resistant increases provided that the drug is administered after the challenge. Lysozyme dimer (both a single dose and four times' exposure to the drug) administered after priming does not affect secondary humoral response of SRBC-immunized mice.

Background: In the murine K/BxN serum transfer rheumatoid arthritis (RA) model, tactile allodynia persists after resolution of inflammation in male and partially in female wild type (WT) mice, which is absent in Toll-like receptor (TLR)4 deficient animals. We assessed the role of TLR4 on allodynia, bone remodeling and afferent sprouting in this model of arthritis.
Methods: K/BxN sera were injected into male and female mice with conditional or stable TLR4 deletion and controls.

Hexafluoropropylene oxide dimer acid (HFPO-DA) and perfluoroethylcyclohexane sulfonate (PFECHS) are increasingly used as alternatives for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS). However, their immunotoxicity and underlying molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. Here, to assess immunotoxic effects, zebrafish embryos were exposed to environmentally relevant concentrations of PFOA, PFOS, HFPO-DA, and PFECHS for four days.

Conjugative type 4 secretion systems (T4SSs) are the main driver for the spread of antibiotic resistance genes and virulence factors in bacteria. To deliver the DNA substrate to recipient cells, it must cross the cell envelopes of both donor and recipient bacteria. In the T4SS from the enterococcal conjugative plasmid pCF10, PrgK is known to be the active cell wall degrading enzyme.

Histidine plays an essential role in most biological systems. Changes in the homeostasis of histidine and histidine-rich proteins are connected to several diseases. Herein, we report a water-soluble Cu(II) coordination polymer, labeled CuCP, for the fluorimetric detection of histidine and histidine-rich proteins and peptides.

Optical methods (spectroscopy, spectrofluorometry, dynamic light scattering, and refractometry) were used to study the change in the state of hen egg-white lysozyme (HEWL), protein molecules, and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in aqueous colloids with changes in pH, and the interaction of protein molecules with nanoparticles was also studied. It was shown that changing pH may be the easiest way to control the protein corona on gold nanoparticles. In a colloid of nanoparticles, both in the presence and absence of protein, aggregation-deaggregation, and in a protein colloid, monomerization-dimerization-aggregation are the main processes when pH is changed.
