Background And Purpose: Pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE) lesions, which lead to intracranial hemorrhages and cardiac complications, predisposing to thrombotic strokes, are frequent findings in beta-thalassemia. Nevertheless, the association of these lesions with strokes in thalassemic patients has not been previously discussed.
Methods: Ten beta-thalassemic patients who developed an intracranial hemorrhage or a thrombotic stroke were reviewed.
Results: In the group of the four patients presenting with hemorrhage, one had PXE lesions, one had cardiac abnormalities, and one both PXE and cardiac disorders. In the group presenting with thrombotic stroke, all six patients had cardiac abnormalities and platelet count elevation due to splenectomy. Three also had PXE findings. No other predisposing factor for stroke was present.
Conclusions: Cardiac complications and PXE may be risk factors for strokes in beta-thalassemia. Their frequent coexistence leads to a therapeutic dilemma in patients requiring antithrombotic therapy.

Background: Shenfu injection (SFI), derived from a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription, is an effective drug for the treatment of sepsis-induced myocardial injury (SIMI) with good efficacy, but its exact therapeutic mechanism remains unclear.
Methods: SwissTargetPrediction and GeneCards database were used to obtain relevant targets for SFI and SIMI. STRING 11.

Objectives: The coronary heart disease (CHD) can influence the development of several diseases. The presence of CHD is correlated to a higher incidence of concurrent diabetic retinopathy (DR) in previous study. Herein, we aim to analyze the relationship between the CHD severity and following DR with different severity.

Objectives: Supra-normal left ventricular ejection fraction (snLVEF) represents a heterogeneous group with distinct prognoses. Left atrial (LA) strain, measured by speckle tracking echocardiography (STE), is a validated prognostic indicator. This study aimed to evaluate LA and left ventricular (LV) mechanical strains in hypertensive patients with snLVEF.

Aims: This study aimed to investigate incidence and predictors of weaning failure and in-hospital death after successful weaning from veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) in patients with cardiogenic shock (CS).
Methods And Results: Overall, 685 patients with CS treated with VA-ECMO from 23 tertiary care centres in 7 countries were analysed (median age 57 [interquartile range 49-66] years, 542 [79.1%] male, median lactate 7.
