[Quality assurance in roentgen mammography. Comparison of recommended EUREF guidelines with relevant German regulations].

Published: August 1997

The Program "Europe against Cancer" published the 2nd edition of quality assurance guidelines for breast cancer screening in June 1996. For the enforcement of these guidelines, a European network of reference centres (EUREF) is being established. Although the EUREF protocol contains guidelines for all disciplines involved in breast cancer screening, this article concentrates on the physical and technical aspect. The comparison with the German regulations (DIN Norms) demonstrates the high requirements requested by the EUREF guidelines with its tighter limits and more extensive and more frequent tests.

Uniformity test in three-dimensional rotational angiography: Novel tools and methods for advanced performance evaluation.

Introduction: American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Task Group (TG) 238 provides guidance on quality control procedures to ensuring optimal three-dimensional rotational angiography (3DRA) image quality. The uniformity test outlined in this guideline utilizes a sampling method, which provide limited information on image uniformity and has been found to be a sub-optimum predictor of image quality issues. Despite this limitation, numerous automated quality control software solutions for uniformity testing have been developed using the available method.

Quality Control (QC) tests in mammography are very important, since mammograms have been used as a population-based screening test for more than 30 years and QCs lead to better image quality and radiation safety for patients. European guidelines, EUREF and EFOMP protocols provide comprehensive QC guidelines for digital mammography (DM) and digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) units, respectively. We developed a novel, fast, free and platform independent software (named MAMMO_QC) for QC performance tests in DM and tomosynthesis, based on the aforementioned guidelines.

Mammography equipment attached to the digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) system is widespread in Japan. However, there are no guidelines for quality control methods for DBT in Japan. Therefore, it is necessary to rapidly establish a performance evaluation procedure and a quality control procedure for DBT.

[Comparison of Contrast to Noise Ratio and Signal Difference to Noise Ratio Based on QA and QC Guidelines in CR Mammography].

Nihon Hoshasen Gijutsu Gakkai Zasshi

June 2016

Department of Radiology, Shimane University Hospital (Current address: Division of Clinical Radiology, Tottori University Hospital).

The measurement methods of contrast to noise ratio (CNR) and signal difference to noise ratio (SDNR) in digital mammography are different among several quality assurance (QA) guidelines, that is, the type of pixel value (PV), phantom shape, location of aluminum plate, and the size of region of interest (ROI) principally differ in data acquisition. We compared CNR (SDNR) obtained from three QA guidelines. They are the European Reference Organisation for Quality Assured Breast Screening and Diagnostic Services (EUREF), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Artifacts in digital mammography.

JBR-BTR

March 2009

Department of Radiology, University Hospitals Leuven, Leuven, Belgium.

In April 2005 screening with digital mammography was allowed in the Flemish part of Belgium. A rigorous physical-technical Quality Control (QC) procedure based on the European guidelines (EUREF) was then implemented. Besides quality control, there is also quality assurance (QA).
