Expression of cytokeratins nos. 7 and 19 has been examined during pre- and postnatal ontogenesis in rat liver. Cells expressing cytokeratin no. 19 appeared around large incoming vessels in the liver at days 17-18 of gestation. From day 20 of gestation and during the first week of postnatal ontogenesis, cholangiocytes and periportal hepatocytes could be stained with antibodies against cytokeratin no. 19. The expression of cytokeratin no. 7 begins later than cytokeratin no. 19, and it is present only in cholangiocytes, throughout pre- and postnatal ontogenesis. Since pre- and postnatal hepatocytes are capable of expressing cytokeratin no. 19, we discuss possible use of this marker to study cytodifferentiation of epithelial cell lines in rat liver.

Neurons in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus discharge synchronously in brain state-dependent manner to transfer information. Published studies have highlighted the temporal coordination of neuronal activities between the hippocampus and a neocortical area, however, how the spatial extent of neocortical activity relates to hippocampal activity remains partially unknown. We imaged mesoscopic neocortical activity while recording hippocampal local field potentials in anesthetized and unanesthetized GCaMP-expressing transgenic mice.

Background And Aims: Maternal diet and health may influence a child's later neurodevelopment. We investigated the effect of maternal diet, adiposity, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), and depressive/anxiety symptoms during pregnancy on the child's motor outcome at 5-6 years.
Methods: The motor performance of 159 children of women with overweight or obesity (pre-pregnancy body mass index 25-29.

Adaptation to existence outside the womb is a key event in the life of a mammal. The absence of macrophages in rats with a homozygous mutation in the colony-stimulating factor 1 receptor (Csf1r) gene (Csf1rko) severely compromises pre-weaning somatic growth and maturation of organ function. Transfer of wild-type bone marrow cells (BMT) at weaning rescues tissue macrophage populations permitting normal development and long-term survival.

Background: Nemolizumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody against interleukin-31 receptor A (IL-31RA), is used to treat atopic dermatitis and prurigo nodularis. These inflammatory skin diseases affect a wide range of age groups, including pregnant women and children; however, little is known about their biological effects on pre- and postnatal development. Therefore, we report and discuss the results of an enhanced pre- and postnatal development study in cynomolgus monkeys treated with nemolizumab, which also incorporates an assessment of juvenile toxicities.

These studies focused on the cortex and primary sensory circuits during restricted developmental time periods, leaving substantial gaps in our understanding of the early developmental functions of microglia. Here we investigated how the absence of microglia impacts synaptic development in the nucleus accumbens (NAc), a region critical for emotional regulation and motivated behaviors and where dysfunction is implicated in psychiatric disorders that arise early in life.
