The ovicidal effects of 3 agents: hydrogen peroxide, pantocidum, and Bingsti derived from plant materials (Russia's patent No. 2062752 in 1996) were tested. The findings suggest that pantocidum and hydrogen peroxide were ineffective when used in the tested doses for decontamination. Bingsti was promising in disinfecting sewage. The usage of the nontoxic plant-based agent to decontaminate environmental objects will solve the problem in the utilization of sewage deposits and reduce the risk of parasitosis in human beings.

Thermal-Sensitive Artificial Ionic Skin with Environmental Stability and Self-Healing Property.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Organic Optoelectronics and Molecular Engineering and Laboratory of Flexible Electronics Technology, Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, P. R. China.

Wearable temperature-sensitive electronic skin enables robots to rapidly detect environmental changes and respond intelligently, thereby reducing temperature-related mechanical failures. Additionally, this temperature-sensitive skin can measure and record the temperature of external objects, broadening its potential applications in the medical field. In this study, we designed a thermally sensitive artificial ionic skin using ionic liquids (ILs) as solvents and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as thermally conductive fillers.

A comparison of force adaptation in toddlers and adults during a drawer opening task.

Adapting movements to rapidly changing conditions is fundamental for interacting with our dynamic environment. This adaptability relies on internal models that predict and evaluate sensory outcomes to adjust motor commands. Even infants anticipate object properties for efficient grasping, suggesting the use of internal models.

QSAR modeling to describe n-octanol-water partition coefficients of perfluorinated/polyfluorinated alkyl compounds.

Mar Pollut Bull

January 2025

School of Resources and Environment, Nanchang University, Key Laboratory of Poyang Lake Environment and Resource Utilization, Ministry of Education, Nanchang 330031, Jiangxi, China.

The widespread use of perfluoro/polyfluoroalkyl compounds (PFACs) makes it inevitable for them to be released into and affect the environment, and the octanol-water partition coefficient (logK) is a key indicator for evaluating the environmental behavior of trace pollutants and their impact on the environment. However, the determination of logK using experimental means is often time-consuming and laborious, or even unattainable. Therefore, the logKow of 20 per/polyfluoroalkyl compounds obtained from the PubChem database was selected as the object of study, and the 41 chemical descriptors required for modeling were obtained by density-functional theory calculations, and it was found that only two molecular descriptors (A, V) were significantly correlated with the logK, with the correlation of the descriptor A being the was the strongest.

Identifying factors that contribute to collision avoidance behaviours while walking in a natural environment.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology, Simon Fraser University, 8888 University Drive, Burnaby, BC, V5A 1S6, Canada.

Busy walking paths, like in a park, city centre, or shopping mall, frequently necessitate collision avoidance behaviour. Lab-based research has shown how different situation- and person-specific factors, typically studied independently, affect avoidance behaviour. What happens in the real world is unclear.

Climate change is a spatial and temporarily non-uniform phenomenon that requires understanding its evolution to better evaluate its potential societal and economic impact. The value added of this paper lies in introducing a quantitative methodology grounded in the trend analysis of temperature distribution quantiles to analyze climate change heterogeneity (CCH). By converting these quantiles into time series objects, the methodology empowers the definition and measurement of various relevant concepts in climate change analysis (warming, warming typology, warming amplification and warming acceleration) in a straightforward and robust testable linear regression format.
