The authors determined the zinc content in the foods of eight diets recommended for different groups of subjects between four and a half months and twelve years. Then the average daily intake was calculated at any age. The highest values were found in meat products, the lowest ones in fruit and vegetables. The average levels of zinc intake were almost always upper than L.A.R.N. in both male and female.

This study investigated the green synthesis of Zn-MnO nanocomposites via the fungus Penicillium rubens. Herein, the synthesized Zn-MnO nanocomposites were confirmed by UV-spectrophotometry with a top peak (370 nm). Transmission electron microscopy confirmed irregular particles with a spherical-like shape ranging from 25.

Objectives: Supplemental zinc during acute diarrhea reduces illness duration but also increases vomiting. In a recent trial, we found that children receiving lower daily doses of zinc (5 mg or 10 mg vs. 20 mg) had lower rates of vomiting with comparable stool output and duration of diarrhea.

A zinc(II) coordination polymer, [Zn(Hdhtp)(2,2'-bpy)(HO)] (1), has been utilized as a dual-mode luminescence-colorimetric sensor (Hdhtp = 2,5-dihydroxy terephthalate and 2,2'-bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine). The presence of hydroxyl groups in Hdhtp can promote excited-state intra- and intermolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) phenomena. Therefore, compound 1, which displays high stability in aqueous environments, exhibits a strong green-yellow photoluminescence.

Insulin degrading enzyme (IDE) is a dimeric 110 kDa M16A zinc metalloprotease that degrades amyloidogenic peptides diverse in shape and sequence, including insulin, amylin, and amyloid-β, to prevent toxic amyloid fibril formation. IDE has a hollow catalytic chamber formed by four homologous subdomains organized into two ~55 kDa N- and C- domains (IDE-N and IDE-C, respectively), in which peptides bind, unfold, and are repositioned for proteolysis. IDE is known to transition between a closed state, poised for catalysis, and an open state, able to release cleavage products and bind new substrate.

AISI 316L stainless steel is extensively used in various fields, including medicine. In this study, in order to improve antibacterial properties, reduce elastic modulus, increase hydrophilicity and delay corrosion on the surface of AISI 316L stainless steel pieces for biomedical applications, zinc and magnesium elements were used for coating. Zn monolayer, Zn-Mg bilayer, and Zn-Mg-Zn triple coatings were deposited on AISI 316L substrates using the thermal evaporation method.
