Suppositories of 15-methyl PGF2alpha methyl ester in triglyceride were administered vaginally to 75 women in whom 31 to 49 days had elapsed since their last menstrual period. Three or four suppositories of 0.5, 1.0, or 1.5 mg were given at intervals of 3 hours. Pregnancy was later confirmed in 63 of the women. In the pregnant women vaginal bleeding usually started 3 to 6 hours after the initiation of therapy and continued for 10 to 14 days. Patients were followed for 2 to 4 weeks with serial measurement of serum progesterone and hCG. There were no failures in the trial, but in 2 cases the treatment resulted in incomplete abortion. In 2 other patients curettage was performed due to prolonged bleeding, but histologic examination revealed no remaining signs of pregnancy. Gastrointestinal side effects were well within acceptable limits, and no serious complications occurred. Clinical signs of pelvic inflammatory disease were not found. The vaginal use of 15-methyl PGF2alpha methyl ester seems promising as a reliable outpatient nonsurgical self-administered procedure for termination of early pregnancy.

Rapid screening of pottery lipid residue profile via comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography.

Anal Chim Acta

February 2025

Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, School of Humanities, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 100049, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Background: Pottery lipid residue analysis has been extensively practiced worldwide as an important part of archaeometry studies, but in some cases, the complexity of archaeological residue cannot be fully revealed by one-dimensional gas chromatography (1D GC) separation. Although the development of comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GCxGC) has offered another way to achieve better separation and higher resolution, GCxGC separation has rarely been applied to pottery residue analysis. Clearly, GCxGC separation needs to be explored to examine and scrutinize the complexity of pottery lipid residue profile as well as rapid data treatment workflow.

Encapsulation of synthesized purpurin-18-N-aminoimide methyl ester in lipid nanovesicles for use as agents in photodynamic cancer therapy.

J Pharm Sci

January 2025

Center for Nano Manufacturing and Department of Nanoscience and Engineering, Inje University, Gimhae 50834, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

This study aimed to synthesize purpurin-18-N-aminoimide methyl ester (P18 N AI ME) and encapsulate it into lipid nanovesicles (LNVs) for potential application as photodynamic therapy (PDT) agents in cancer therapy. PDT, a light-induced treatment, offers several advantages over conventional cancer treatments, such as minimal invasiveness and localized action. P18 N AI ME, a chlorine class photosensitizer model drug, was synthesized in an attempt to treat tumor in deeper tissues by interacting long-wavelength light.

One-Pot Synthesis of 2-Substituted Indoles and 7-Azaindoles Sequential Alkynylation and Cyclization of 2-Iodo--mesylarylamines and Alkynes in the Presence of CuO.

Asian J Org Chem

January 2025

Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, 160 Frelinghuysen Road, Piscataway, New Jersey 08854, USA.

A one-pot process was developed to synthesize in moderate to high yield a series of 2-substituted indoles and 7-azaindoles starting from 2-iodo--mesylarylamines and terminal alkynes in the presence of CuO in DMF at 90-120 °C. Without isolation of any intermediate, our optimized conditions enabled the introduction of ester, phenyl, hydroxymethyl, hydroxyethyl, -Boc-aminomethyl, and methyl at the 2-postion of indoles and 7-azaindoles. The reaction tolerates a variety of substrates containing halogens, or acid- or base-sensitive functional groups without requiring a Pd catalyst, a ligand, or a base.

The sensitive Bisphenol A (BPA) detection by an electrochemical sensor based on gold nanoparticle-doped molecularly imprinted polymer was successfully improved. This study describes the development of a method for BPA detection in both aqueous solution and real water samples using N-methacroyl-(L)-cysteine methyl ester and N-methacryloyl-(L)-phenylalanine methyl ester coated pencil graphite electrodes modified with AuNPs by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Importantly, AuNPs, which increase the electroactivity, were used to increase the surface area of a BPA-imprinted pencil graphite electrode (MIP PGE) sensor.

Although a major share of postharvest losses of apples is due to fungal fruit rots, their timely detection is difficult in commercial bulk-storage rooms. Therefore, a method was developed to identify the volatile markers of fruit naturally infected by Phacidiopycnis washingtonensis, a common storage-rot fungus of Northern Europe, and North and South America. Potato dextrose agar, apple juice agar, and fruit of the apple cultivar 'Nicoter' were inoculated with P.
