The purpose of this study is to determine the place of trapeziectomy among the various surgical treatments of osteoarthritis of the trapezio-metacarpal joint. We have had 25 cases with seemingly satisfactory results. Loss of strength, which is given as a frequent objection to this method, has not generally been found in our series. Careful repair of the capsule and prolonged postoperative immobilization appear all-important to us and are a guaranty for good postoperative stability.

Introduction: Rhizarthrosis, or osteoarthritis of the trapeziometacarpal joint, predominantly affects women over 50, with up to 30% experiencing some degree of arthritis in this joint. Traditional surgical approaches, such as trapeziectomy with ligament reconstruction, can result in some patients in persistent pain or limited functionality. TMC ball-in-socket arthroplasty, with a cup placed in the distal scaphoid, offers a promising alternative to traditional arthrodesis or resection-suspension arthroplasty.

This study aimed to evaluate and compare the clinical and functional outcomes of two surgical procedures performed in patients with severe grade III and IV rhizarthrosis.  We evaluated 39 patients who underwent two surgical techniques for rhizarthrosis treatment: trapeziectomy using the Kuhns technique or tendon interposition, with a minimum follow-up period of 6 months. The primary outcome assessment used the specific Trapeziometacarpal Arthrosis Symptoms and Disability (TASD) questionnaire, and the secondary outcome evaluation employed the shortened version of the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (QuickDASH) questionnaire and the visual analog scale (VAS).

Polyclinique des 3 Vallées, 4 Route de Saint Pons, 34600 Bédarieux, France. Electronic address:

Objectives: De Quervain's tendinitis is frequently observed after placement of a trapeziometacarpal prosthesis. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between De Quervain's tendinitis, osteoarthritis of the thumb and placement of a trapeziometacarpal prosthesis. The second aim was a critical analysis of the literature in search of a cause for this postoperative event after arthroplasty or trapeziectomy.

Background: In patients with symptomatic trapeziometacarpal (TMC) joint arthritis resistant to conservative treatment, surgical treatment can be advised. One of the many surgical treatment options is TMC arthroplasty. The Arpe prosthesis is one example of these TMC arthroplasties.

Introduction: The aim of this prospective and randomized study is to analyze and compare the outcomes of two surgical techniques for trapeziometacarpal joint osteoarthritis (Eaton-Littler grade III and IV).

Materials And Methods: 52 consecutive patients underwent surgical intervention by two different surgical techniques and checked for subjective outcomes (DASH, NPRS), objective outcomes (ROM, opposition test, grinding test, pulp pinch, hand grip) and radiographic outcomes. Surgical time was calculated.
