In the last few years, the intra-articular administration of somatostatin, has been used in some diseases regarding rheumatology such as rheumatoid arthritis psoriatic arthritis and osteoarthritis, giving encouraging results. The objective of this study was to asses the efficacy and tolerability of subacromial-injection of somatostatin in 20 patients with painful shoulder. The study consisted of 3 injection administered every 4 days. The results revealed a significant improvement of the pain during active movement as well as joint excursion, and interference with daily activity immediately after the first injection. The good tolerability of the drug and the absence of unwanted side-effects allow us to foresee that the local-administration of somatostatin could be used in painful shoulder notably in those patients in which other drugs are not appropriate.

Treatment of distal radial fractures that include small anterior rim fragments can be difficult. We retrospectively reviewed 19 patients in whom an anterior rim plate with locking screws was used. After a median follow-up of 18 months (range 6-32; interquartile range (IQR) 14, 26), the median wrist flexion and extension arc was 70° (range 50-80; IQR 60, 70), the median grip strength was 80% of the contralateral side (range 52-104; IQR 77, 88), the median visual analogue scale score for pain was 0 (range 0-5; IQR 0, 1), the median disabilities of the arm, shoulder and hand score was 2 (range 0-59; IQR 0, 11) and the median modified Mayo wrist score was 80 (range 35-100; IQR 75, 85).

The 25-question Geriatric Locomotive Function Scale (GLFS-25) is a tool to identify locomotive syndrome, however, this tool is associated with the problem of a low complete response rate. We conducted this cross-sectional study of 2,474 community-dwelling residents to investigate the clinical characteristics of individuals who are prone to provide incomplete responses to the GLFS-25 questionnaire. The participants were divided into the following four groups based on the number of the GLFS-25 items they answered: 0 (n=279), 1-21 (n=36), 22-24 (n=273), and 25 (n=1,886).

Tenodesis of the long head of biceps is a common shoulder surgical procedure. Tenodesis can be performed either arthroscopically or open and within the glenohumeral joint, within the bicipital groove, or below the pectoralis major tendon insertion. Arthroscopic tenodesis of the biceps tendon reduces the risk of infection.

Biceps-labrum complex (BLC) disease is a well-established pain generator in the shoulder. Despite its ubiquity, BLC disease continues to pose a diagnostic challenge for orthopaedic surgeons. The use of magnetic resonance imaging and glenohumeral arthroscopy in the diagnosis of BLC disease has proven to be inadequate when performed independently.

Rotator cuff injuries are common and can lead to pain and functional limitation of the shoulder, sometimes requiring surgical procedure. We describe a surgical approach combining the modified Mason-Allen and lasso-loop techniques for the repair of rotator cuff injuries. This hybrid approach brings the 2 advantages of each suture: the compression provided by the loop and the large quantity of tendons caught by the Mason-Allen in a single repair row.
