Background: In order to evaluate whether individualized technique and dosimetry of radiotherapy increase local control, organ preservation, and survival of patients with T1 glottic cancer, we reviewed 76 cases treated from 1979 to 1993.
Methods: Group A included 32 patients treated from 1979 to 1989 with different techniques, based on clinical aspects. Group B included 44 patients treated from 1990 to 1993 with individualized technique according to tumor extension and patient's anatomy.
Results: Five-year local control with radiotherapy alone was achieved in 53% of group A versus 91% of group B (P > 0.005). Survival was similar in both groups with rescue surgery (90% versus 96%). Five-year survival with larynx preservation was 65% in group A versus 88% in group B (P = 0.02). Most recurrences (78%) appeared within 24 months of follow-up.
Conclusion: Adequate staging, individualized technique, computing planning using simulation and use of immobilization devices during cobalt-60 radiotherapy significantly increase local control and organ preservation in T1 glottic cancer.

Background: The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) sparked significant health concerns worldwide, prompting policy makers and health care experts to implement nonpharmaceutical public health interventions, such as stay-at-home orders and mask mandates, to slow the spread of the virus. While these interventions proved essential in controlling transmission, they also caused substantial economic and societal costs and should therefore be used strategically, particularly when disease activity is on the rise. In this context, geosocial media posts (posts with an explicit georeference) have been shown to provide a promising tool for anticipating moments of potential health care crises.

To address the susceptibility of conventional vector control systems for permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) to motor parameter variations and load disturbances, a novel control method combining an improved Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm (GOA) with a variable universe fuzzy Proportional-Integral (PI) controller is proposed, building upon standard fuzzy PI control. First, the diversity of the population and the global exploration capability of the algorithm are enhanced through the integration of the Cauchy mutation strategy and uniform distribution strategy. Subsequently, the fusion of Cauchy mutation and opposition-based learning, along with modifications to the optimal position, further improves the algorithm's ability to escape local optima.

Tissue-repair regulatory T cells (trTregs) comprise a specialized cell subset essential for tissue homeostasis and repair. While well-studied in sterile injury models, their role in infection-induced tissue damage and antimicrobial immunity is less understood. We investigated trTreg dynamics during acute Trypanosoma cruzi infection, marked by extensive tissue damage and strong CD8+ immunity.

Every heartbeat depends on cyclical contraction-relaxation produced by the interactions between myosin-containing thick and actin-based thin filaments (TFs) arranged into a crystalline-like lattice in the cardiac sarcomere. Therefore, the maintenance of thin filament length is crucial for myocardium function. The thin filament is comprised of an actin backbone, the regulatory troponin complex and tropomyosin that controls interactions between thick and thin filaments.

Background: Indonesia's vast archipelago and substantial population size present unique challenges in addressing its multifaceted HIV epidemic, with 90% of its 514 districts and cities reporting cases. Identifying key populations (KPs) is essential for effectively targeting interventions and allocating resources to address the changing dynamics of the epidemic.
Objective: We examine the 2022 mapping of Indonesia's KPs to develop improved HIV and AIDS interventions.
