The effect of varying the external Mg2+ concentration on Ca2+ currents through voltage-operated Ca2+ channels has been examined with the patch-clamp technique in acutely isolated neuronal somata from the X-organ-sinus gland (XOSG) of the crab, Cardisoma carnifex. Neurons from this neurosecretory system were selected for morphology associated with crustacean hyperglycemic hormone (CHH) content. In parallel, the effects of Mg2+ concentration on K(+)-evoked secretion of CHH from isolated, intact XOSGs have been assayed by ELISA. At physiological Ca2+ levels the high-voltage-activated Ca2+ currents were attenuated with increasing Mg2+ concentration, with 50% inhibition at approximately 75 mM. Mg2+ block was voltage-dependent, relief from block occurring with increasing depolarization. Thus, in 24 mM Mg2+ inhibition of the Ca2+ current was approximately 55% at -10 mV. Secretion of CHH varied almost linearly with the log of Mg2+ concentration; in 2.4 mM Mg2+ it was double that in 24 mM Mg2+ and almost completely inhibited in 100 mM. Thus, Mg2+ produces a parallel inhibition of Ca2+ currents and CHH secretion and may play a role as a physiological modulator of neuronal activity and secretion in the XOSG of these crabs.

As an abiotic stress factor, salinity significantly affects the physiological activities of crustaceans. In this study, transcriptome sequencing was used to evaluate the mechanism of ion transport and the physiological response of black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) under low salt stress. Four hundred post larval (PL) stage P.

Continuous cropping decreases soil nutrients and destroys microbial community structure, so the development of eco-friendly and effective biofertilizers is necessary under present conditions. In this study, the preserving microalgal strain sp. (H) was firstly selected to be combined with agroforestry waste (shell powder, straw fermentation liquid) and the agroforestry microorganism sp.

By analyzing the chemical characteristics of the formation water in the tight sandstone reservoirs of the P2x8 and P1s1 in the southern Ordos Basin, combined with rock mineral composition, reservoir physical properties, and well gas testing data, the genesis mechanism of formation water and its guiding role in gas reservoir development were discussed. The results show that the formation water is derived from the mixture of syngenetic seawater and meteoric water and has undergone remarkable modification by water-rock interactions, showing characteristics of Ca enrichment and Mg and SO depletion. The albitization of plagioclase in reservoir rock components causes Ca excess and Na deficiency in formation water, while the chloritization of albite leads to the increase of Na.

Understanding the interfacial interaction mechanisms between oil and minerals is of vital importance in the applications of petroleum production and environmental protection. In this work, the interactions of dodecane with mica and calcite in aqueous media were investigated by using the drop probe technique based on atomic force microscopy. For the dodecane-mica interactions, the electrical double layer (EDL) repulsion dominated in 10 mM NaCl solution, and a higher pH facilitated the detachment of dodecane.

Although significant progress has been made in the effective measurement of Zn(II), Аlizarin red S (ARS) was immobilized on polyethylene polyamine-modified polyacrylonitrile (PPF-1) via a new matrix. This approach allows the detection of low levels of Zn(II) ions in various water samples via preconcentrated atomic absorption spectrometry. The use of PPF-1 in a polymer matrix for zinc preconcentration presents several advantages over traditional sorbtion-spectroscopic methods, including reduced cost, high zinc recovery, increased sensitivity, and selectivity.
