The qualitative and quantitative composition of free amino acids was studied in the cells of Staphylococcus aureus, strain 209-P, and its pigmentless mutant B-6 grown in aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Aerobiosis stimulated accumulation of dicarboxylic and hydroxy amino acids, alanine and leucine, and pigment biosynthesis in the cells of Staphylococcus aureus. One amino acid has not been identified. The content of free amino acids was different in the cells of the parent strain and its mutant grown in anaerobic conditions.
