Four experiments are reported that investigated the role of the perceived coplanarity of a moving target with respect to a frame of reference in the third dimension on the perceived path of that target. When a target dot and small moving frame appeared coplanar, the dot's perceived trajectory was governed entirely by its changing position relative to the moving frame. However, when the target and a large stationary frame appeared in a different plane than the small moving frame, the motion of the dot was seen independently of the moving frame. The results support a belongingness principle of motion perception: The displacement of an object relative to a frame of reference to which it belongs governs its perceived path of motion.

Though the United Nations deals with its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in blocs of 15 years at a time, "sustainable" indicates a longer-term focus, aiming at steady human progress, including in public health and welfare. But the alcohol history in many countries shows "long waves" of consumption, repetitively rising, then falling, then rising again. Underlying this dynamic are competing interests pushing in opposite directions.

This study investigates how lower-level English language learners achieve and maintain intersubjectivity and navigate through co-constructed framings during context-embedded tasks such as improvised role-play. In language education settings, activities associated with interactions often reflect multi-layered participant orientations beyond mere linguistic execution. From the perspectives of ethnomethodology and conversation analysis, linguistic actions are effective only when they are intersubjectively understood: the complexity of an activity necessitates corresponding levels of intersubjectivity for smooth progression.

Real-time moving target trajectory prediction is highly valuable in applications such as automatic driving, target tracking, and motion prediction. This paper examines the projection of three-dimensional random motion of an object in space onto a sensing plane as an illustrative example. Historical running trajectory data are used to train a reserve network.

Hippocampal place cell populations over-represent salient locations in an animal's environment, including those associated with rewards; however, how the spatial uncertainties impact the cognitive map is unclear. We report a virtual spatial navigation task designed to test the impact of different levels and types of uncertainty about reward on place cell populations.

Filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs) are manufactured in discrete sizes, with some models being limited in relation to accommodating the fit of some sex and race combinations. This study presents the development of a custom-fit respiratory protective device (RPD) which conforms to a user's facial features and flexes and moves with facial movements during use. Our design also integrates a pressure-sensing network, which continuously monitors fit and will alert the user when the fit is compromised.
