Exciton calculations on symmetric and asymmetric Fenna-Matthews-Olson (FMO) trimers, combined with absorption difference anisotropy measurements on FMO trimers from the green bacterium Chlorobium tepidum, suggest that real samples exhibit sufficient diagonal energy disorder so that their laser-excited exciton states are noticeably localized. Our observed anisotropies are clearly inconsistent with 21-pigment exciton simulations based on a threefold-symmetric FMO protein. They are more consistent with a 7-pigment model that assumes that the laser-prepared states are localized within a subunit of the trimer. Differential diagonal energy shifts of 50 cm(-1) between symmetry-related pigments in different subunits are large enough to cause sharp localization in the stationary states; these shifts are commensurate with the approximately 95 cm(-1) inhomogeneous linewidth of the lowest exciton levels. Experimental anisotropies (and by implication steady-state linear and circular dichroism) likely arise from statistical averaging over states with widely contrasting values of these observables, in consequence of their sensitivity to diagonal energy disorder.

In this work the effect of the geometric phase on time evolution of the density matrix was evaluated during nonadiabatic radiofrequency (RF) pulses with Sine amplitude modulation (AM) and Cosine frequency modulation (FM) functions of the RAFF (Relaxations Along a Fictitious Field) family, and the polarization between two energy level ½ spin system coupled by dipolar interaction was evaluated during the application of RF irradiation. The dependencies of the diagonal density matrix elements and the polarization on the rotational correlation times and the time during RF pulses were evaluated. The general treatment of the density matrix elements along with the polarization generated during RF pulses was unavailable thus far, and for the first time was here derived for the nonadiabatic case of the RAFF pulses.

L-Amino acid transporters (LATs) play a key role in a wide range of physiological processes. Defects in LATs can lead to neurological disorders and aminoacidurias, while the overexpression of these transporters is related to cancer. BasC is a bacterial LAT transporter with an APC fold.

This paper presents the design and implementation of a deep-learning-based observer for accurately estimating the State of Charge (SoC) of a vanadium flow battery. The novelty of the proposal lies in its direct use of terminal voltage and the application of a machine learning algorithm to model the battery's overpotentials, leading to greater accuracy and reduced complexity compared to classical models. The overpotentials model consists of a neural network trained using data generated by a classical observer that estimates species concentration using a physical electrochemical model and the open-circuit voltage measurement.

In this work, we present a non-orthogonal configuration interaction (NOCI) approach to address the rotational corrections in multicomponent quantum chemistry calculations where hydrogen nuclei and electrons are described with orbitals under Hartree-Fock (HF) and density functional theory (DFT) frameworks. The rotational corrections are required in systems such as diatomic (HX) and nonlinear triatomic molecules (HXY), where localized broken-symmetry nuclear orbitals have a lower energy than delocalized orbitals with the correct symmetry. By restoring rotational symmetry with the proposed NOCI approach, we demonstrate significant improvements in proton binding energy predictions at the HF level, with average rotational corrections of 0.

Many types of spatiotemporal patterns have been observed under nonequilibrium conditions. Cycling through four or more states can provide specific dynamics, such as the spatial coexistence of multiple phases. However, transient dynamics have only been studied by previous theoretical models, since absorbing transition into a uniform phase covered by a single state occurs in the long-time limit.
