Objective: To determine the risk factors for acquiring a respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and vaccine-preventable infections (R/VPI) in pediatric heart transplant recipients and the associated morbidity and hospital resource use.
Study Design: Patients <18 years who underwent heart transplantation from September 2003 to December 2018 at hospitals using the Pediatric Health Information System database were identified. Their transplant hospitalization and subsequent hospitalizations for R/VPI through December 2018 were analyzed.

Data on preservation of vaccine immunity following allogeneic HSCT in children is limited. We investigated vaccine titers and sought correlations with patient characteristics in this study. Twenty-eight cases were retrospectively analyzed.

Background: The purpose of this study was to determine the rates of initial vaccinations after splenectomy for trauma, assess the effectiveness of patient education on reimmunizations, and evaluate patients' utilization of their knowledge regarding immunization after discharge.
Methods: From June 1996-December 2011, 144 patients underwent splenectomy after traumatic injury. A telephone survey was completed in 100 of 144 splenectomized patients (69%) at a mean of 7.

Introduction: patients treated with hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) lose immune memory accumulated through a lifetime. They are at increased risk of developing infections with microorganisms such as Haemophilus influenza, Streptococcus pneumoniae and others for which vaccines are available. Therefore, all patients after HSCT should be routinely revaccinated.

Increasing antibiotic resistance and a rising patient population at risk for infection due to impaired immunity underscore the importance of vaccination against pneumococci. However, available capsular polysaccharide vaccines are often poorly immunogenic in patients at risk for pneumococcal disease. The goal of this study was to explore the potential of peptide mimotopes to function as alternative vaccine antigens to elicit a type-specific antibody response to pneumococci.
