Background: White matter hyperintensities (WMH) are prominent neuroimaging markers of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) linked to cognitive decline. Nevertheless, the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying WMH remain unclear.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the structural decoupling index (SDI) as a novel metric for quantifying the brain's hierarchical organization associated with WMH in cognitively normal older adults

Methods: We analyzed data from 112 cognitively normal individuals with varying WMH burdens (43 high WMH burden and 69 low WMH burden).

Complete Resection of Aorticopulmonary Paraganglioma With Reconstruction in a Pediatric Patient.

Ann Thorac Surg Short Rep

September 2024

Division of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Children's Heart Institute, Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston McGovern Medical School, Houston, Texas.

Aorticopulmonary paragangliomas are exceedingly rare tumors in pediatric populations. Complete surgical resection is the only curative treatment. However, resection is challenging due to the vascularity of paragangliomas and their close relationship with the great vessels.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Bernard and Irene Schwartz Center for Biomedical Imaging, New York University Grossman School of Medicine, New York, NY, USA.

Background: Amyloid related imaging abnormalities (ARIA), a group of neuropathological features seen in anti-amyloid immunotherapy patients, arises partly from CAA (Aβ buildup in blood vessels). Squirrel monkeys (SQMs), developing prominent age-related CAA exceeding brain Aβ, offer a unique NHP model for ARIA study. Evaluating edema-related neurobiological defects (ARIA-E) involves preferential use of T-weighted (T-w) and flow-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) MRI while T*-weighted (T*-w) MRI is better suited for investigating iron-related pathology like microbleeds, hemorrhaging, and iron-homing in plaques.

Introduction: Lymphedema, a debilitating characterized by localized fluid retention and tissue swelling, results from abnormalities in the lymphatic system. In the case of primary lymphedema, this condition is attributed to malformations in lymphatic vessels or nodes, and it is marked by a relentless progression leading to irreversible tissue fibrosis after repetitive inflammation. Many questions regarding its treatment, such as the choice of the type of intervention and the timing, still remain unanswered.

A 39-year-old woman presented a saucer-shaped mass in the left upper eyelid and underwent the extirpation at local anesthesia. Pathologically, collagen fibers, capillaries, small vessels, and CD34-positive spindle cells were dispersed among mature adipose tissues, indicative of spindle cell lipoma. Long-lasting cyst-like eyelid masses would be usually dermoid cysts, and spindle cell lipoma would be listed as a rare pathological diagnosis in differential diagnoses of cyst-like lesions in the upper and lower eyelid.
