Cell capacitance (Cm), cell conductance (Gm), access conductance (Ga) and membrane voltage (Vm) were measured simultaneously in insulin secreting cells using the dual frequency method. Depolarization and stimulation of the cells with secretagogues increased Cm. EGTA abolished the increase in [Ca2+]i and prevented the rise of Cm. Adrenaline inhibited the augmentation of Cm without lowering [Ca2+]i. In pertussis toxin pretreated cells adrenaline had no effect. Thus, stimulation of insulin secretion is accompanied by an increase in Cm. Inhibition of exocytosis by adrenaline occurs even in the presence of elevated [Ca2+]i, i.e. at a more distal step of exocytosis.

The presence of a substantial necrotic core in atherosclerotic plaques markedly heightens the risk of rupture, a consequence of elevated iron levels that exacerbate oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation, thereby sustaining a detrimental cycle of ferroptosis and inflammation. Concurrently targeting both ferroptosis and inflammation is crucial for the effective treatment of vulnerable plaques. In this study, we introduce gallium hexacyanoferrate nanoabsorption catalysts (GaHCF NACs) designed to disrupt this pathological cycle.

Aims: Left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) are common cardiac complications of patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc). Exercise stress echocardiography is often used in symptomatic patients with SSc to detect abnormal increases in pulmonary pressures during exercise, but the pathophysiologic and prognostic significance of exercise stress echocardiography to assess the presence of HFpEF in these patients is unclear.
Methods And Results: Patients with SSc (n=140) underwent ergometry exercise stress echocardiography with simultaneous expired gas analysis.

Autoimmune polyglandular syndromes (APS) are characterized by associations of two or more autoimmune diseases (AID). APS type 3 is characterized by the presence of autoimmune thyroid disease associated with other AID, excluding adrenal gland involvement. Here we report a case of a 64-year-old male, with history of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), diagnosed at the age of 32, who was referred to a Diabetes consultation in 2014 due to poor metabolic control.

Background: Glucocorticoid-induced transcript 1 (GLCCI1) has been reported to be associated with the efficiency of inhaled glucocorticoids in patients with asthma. This study aimed to investigate the role of GLCCI1 in the regulation of nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain (NOD)-like receptor (NLR) family pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) by the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) pathway in the pathogenesis of allergic asthma.
Methods: The expression levels of genes encoding GLCCI1, NLRP3 inflammasome components, and PI3K pathway-related indicators were detected in cells isolated from induced sputum from patients with asthma and healthy controls.

Post-streptococcal autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders (PANDAS) are a group of pathological condition characterized by sudden-onset obsessive-compulsive and tic disorders following beta-hemolytic Streptococcus group A (GAS) infection, hypothesized to be caused by autoimmune mechanisms targeting the basal ganglia. Scant literature is available regarding the microbiota composition in children with PANDAS, however few studies support the hypothesis that streptococcal infections may alter gut microbiota composition in these patients, leading to chronic inflammation that may impact the brain function and behavior. Notable changes include reduced microbial diversity and shifts in bacterial populations, which affect metabolic functions crucial for neuroinflammation.
