Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Haizao, Sargassum, is widely used to treat goiter. Gancao, Glycyrrhizae radix et rhizome, is renowned for reducing toxicity or increasing effects in traditional Chinese medicine. As a classic herb pair, Haizao-Gancao (HG) is a commonly used and effective combined therapy for goiter.

5-Fluorouracil is an antimetabolite drug indicated for cancer treatment. Therapeutic drug monitoring of 5-Fluorouracil is necessary because 5-Fluorouracil has narrow therapeutic window and its concentration in blood is affected by individual conditions, like gene polymorphisms. Dried Blood Spot (DBS) is one of the biosampling methods used for therapeutic drug monitoring.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Haizao Yuhu decoction (HYD) is a classic Chinese herbal formula described in the surgical monographs of the Ming Dynasty "Waikezhengzong." It has been widely used to treat goiter for approximately 500 years and found to be particularly effective. HYD contains glycyrrhiza and sargassum.

Thyroid crisis is an emergency due to impaired thyroid function caused by various conditions, particularly infections such as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that result in the dysfunction of various vital organs. We report a case of a 31-year-old Indonesian female with a 2-year history of hyperthyroidism with elevated thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) receptor antibodies. (TRAb) who developed thyroid crisis possibly in association with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia, sepsis, and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).
