Obstructive shock secondary to an unusual cause: primary cardiac lymphoma.

J Cardiothorac Surg

January 2025

Réanimation Médicale et Chirurgicale, CHU de Guadeloupe, Les Abymes, Guadeloupe, 97139, France.

Background: The medico-surgical management of cardiac tumors when there is a suspicion of malignancy is complex. Moreover, in a critically ill setting, the choice of diagnostic tools seems crucial.

Case Presentation: We present the case of a sixty-four-year-old patient with no prior medical history who was admitted to the intensive care unit with obstructive shock secondary to a right heart mass and pulmonary embolism.

Background: Paragangliomas are rare neoplasms arising from extra-adrenal chromaffin cells, with mediastinal paragangliomas representing an exceptionally rare subset. This report details the surgical management of a complex mediastinal paraganglioma case, presenting with refractory hypertension and invasion of critical surrounding structures. A comprehensive review of the current literature is included to underscore existing cases, enhance clinical awareness, and share our insights and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of this challenging condition.

Sweat chloride reflects CFTR function and correlates with clinical outcomes following CFTR modulator treatment.

J Cyst Fibros

January 2025

Cystic Fibrosis Therapeutics Development Network Coordinating Center, Seattle Children's Hospital, Seattle, WA, USA; Department of Pediatrics, University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA; Department of Biostatistics, University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA.

Background: Highly effective CFTR modulators improve CFTR function and lead to dramatic improvements in health outcomes in many people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF). The relationship between measures of CFTR function, such as sweat chloride concentration, and clinical outcomes in pwCF treated with CFTR modulators is poorly defined. We conducted analyses to better understand the relationships between sweat chloride and CFTR function in vitro, and between sweat chloride and clinical outcomes following CFTR modulator treatment.

Feasibility of AI as first reader in the 4-IN-THE-LUNG-RUN lung cancer screening trial: impact on negative-misclassifications and clinical referral rate.

Eur J Cancer

December 2024

Institute for Diagnostic Accuracy, Groningen, the Netherlands; Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Groningen, University Medical Center Groningen, Groningen, the Netherlands. Electronic address:

Background: Lung cancer screening (LCS) with low-dose CT (LDCT) reduces lung-cancer-related mortality in high-risk individuals. AI can potentially reduce radiologist workload as first-read-filter by ruling-out negative cases. The feasibility of AI as first reader was evaluated in the European 4-IN-THE-LUNG-RUN (4ITLR) trial, comparing its negative-misclassifications (NMs) to those of radiologists and the impact on referral rates.

Toxicological effects of long-term continuous exposure to ambient air on human bronchial epithelial Calu-3 cells exposed at the air-liquid interface.

Environ Res

January 2025

Joint Mass Spectrometry Center (JMSC) at Comprehensive Molecular Analytics (CMA), Helmholtz Zentrum München, Munich, 85764, Germany; Joint Mass Spectrometry Center (JMSC) at Analytical Chemistry, Institute of Chemistry, University of Rostock, Rostock, 18051, Germany.

Air pollution significantly contributes to the global burden of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. While single source/compound studies dominate current research, long-term, multi-pollutant studies are crucial to understanding the health impacts of environmental aerosols. Our study aimed to use the first air-liquid interface (ALI) aerosol exposure system adapted for long-term in vitro exposures for ambient air in vitro exposure.
