Aims: Left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) are common cardiac complications of patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc). Exercise stress echocardiography is often used in symptomatic patients with SSc to detect abnormal increases in pulmonary pressures during exercise, but the pathophysiologic and prognostic significance of exercise stress echocardiography to assess the presence of HFpEF in these patients is unclear.

Methods And Results: Patients with SSc (n=140) underwent ergometry exercise stress echocardiography with simultaneous expired gas analysis.

Aims To evaluate the utility of unenhanced spectral imaging, electron density (ED) and overlay electron density (OED) images for assessing pulmonary embolisms in patients with suspected or confirmed acute pulmonary embolism (APE). Background Multiple spectral images can be extrapolated from spectral detector CT (SDCT), ED and OED images. ED and OED images are highly sensitive to moisture-rich tissues.

Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase Gene Polymorphism as a Risk Factor for Coronary Artery Disease.

Indian J Clin Biochem

January 2025

Department of Biochemistry, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka 575004 India.

Hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) is one of the factors contributing to the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease (CAD). Besides nutritional deficiency disorders, genetic polymorphism predominantly related to point mutation in the gene coding for Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR), a key enzyme in the metabolism methionine-homocysteine (Hcy) has been implicated in HHcy. PubMed survey related to MTHFR gene polymorphism in CAD retrieved 143 articles from which 20 were selected in which MTHFR gene polymorphism and Hcy were estimated.

Background: Improvements in the clinical diagnostic use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the identification of liver disorders have been made possible by gadolinium ethoxybenzyl diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (Gd-EOB-DTPA). Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology is in high demand.

Objectives: The purpose of the study is to segment the liver using an enhanced multi-gradient deep convolution neural network (EMGDCNN) and to identify and categorize a localized liver lesion using a Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI.

Background: Central retinal vein occlusion and cilioretinal artery occlusion are rare but serious ocular conditions that can lead to significant visual impairment. While few cases of central retinal vein occlusion and cilioretinal artery occlusion have been individually reported, concurrent occlusion of both vessels is extremely rare, particularly in younger patients without traditional vascular risk factors. We present the first reported case of simultaneous central retinal vein occlusion and cilioretinal artery occlusion in a young female patient associated with short-term use of progestin-only oral contraceptives (OCPs).
