Background: The relationship between midline structural defects and schizophrenia remains unclear, although a number of neuroradiological studies have reported an association between schizophrenia and a range of anomalies.
Method: Three patients are reported, each diagnosed with schizophrenia and neuroradiological evidence of midline structural anomalies. MRI scans are reported in conjunction with performance over a range of neuropsychological tests designed to assess frontal and lateralised cognitive functions.
Results: Evidence of anterior dysfunction was present in all three cases, while on an individual basis patients displayed varying patterns of preserved and dysfunctional cognitive processing.
Conclusion: The reported findings raise a number of interesting issues regarding the nature of hemispheric involvement in schizophrenia.

Instrumentation of C2 vertebra is considered the most difficult for young neurosurgeons and trainees due to its complex anatomical structures, variety of surgical approaches and techniques, and proximity to important neurovascular structures. Key points from a surgical perspective for midline posterior approach is described in the era of neuroradiological advancements. Computed tomography angiographies (CTAs) of a total of 92 patients were evaluated with special attention to the key findings for insertion of screws for craniovertebral junction (CVJ) fixations.

Objectives: Lymphedema of the lower limbs and pubic area is a potential complication following extended pelvic lymph node dissection (ePLND) during robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). The incidence of lymphedema after ePLND has not been systematically reported in the literature. This study aimed to determine the incidence of lymphedema, describe its clinical characteristics and identify specific risk factors in patients undergoing RARP with or without ePLND.

Analysis of the symmetry of the brain hemispheres at the level of individual structures and dominant tissue features has been the subject of research for many years in the context of improving the effectiveness of imaging methods for the diagnosis of brain tumor, stroke, and Alzheimer's disease, among others. One useful approach is to reliably determine the midline of the brain, which allows comparative analysis of the hemispheres and uncovers information on symmetry/asymmetry in the relevant planes of, for example, CT scans. Therefore, an effective method that is robust to various geometric deformations, artifacts, varying noise characteristics, and natural anatomical variability is sought.

The occipital sinus is often thought of as a redundant vestigial structure in adults. However, in rare cases, it can form the dominant route of intracerebral venous drainage, with a risk of significant surgical morbidity if unrecognised. We present an illustrative case describing this anatomical variant and tailoring of a midline suboccipital craniotomy to allow resection of a fourth ventricular epidermoid tumour with preservation of a dominant occipital sinus, and a review of the published literature.

The ability to extinguish contextual fear in a changing environment is crucial for animal survival. Recent data support the role of the thalamic nucleus reuniens (RE) and its projections to the dorsal hippocampal CA1 area (RE→dCA1) in this process. However, it remains poorly understood how RE impacts dCA1 neurons during contextual fear extinction (CFE).
