The Authors studied the possibility of using some dip sticks visual for urinalysis. One hundred of urine samples have been analyzed at the beginning with the instrumental laboratory analytical system and then with the dip sticks visual; the results put in evidence that there is a real discrepancy as far as glucose is concerned. Glucose is overestimated in dip sticks visual method. Bilirubin, blood and proteins are in a decreasing order the most different items. Concerning to pH the results have been comparable. Specific weight cannot be compared to the laboratory method, on the other hand it can be used for screening. On the whole the Authors are quite satisfied about dip sticks visual method; it can be used in order to accelerate diagnosis and avoid pre-analytical mistakes.

In this work, a flexible polyurethane (PU) foam/polymer/clay (PUF/PAASep) composite is prepared via a simple dip-coating method. The composite exhibits excellent damping properties under quasi-static compression, vibration transmissibility, and impact resistance. For the composite preparation, sepiolite (Sep) dispersion in a polyacrylic acid (PAA) solution is first homogenized and evaluated using microscopy, and the obtained PAASep suspension is used to coat the PU foam uniformly for optimization of the quasi-static mechanical performance of the foam composites.

High concentrations of ammonia in the human body can occur due to a wide variety of underlying causes such as liver cirrhosis and the symptoms of high ammonia concentrations are diffuse and hard to diagnose. The measurement of blood ammonia levels is an important diagnostic tool but is challenging to perform at the patient's bedside. Here, we present a plasmonic Ag nanoparticle-based ammonia sensor which provides a colorimetric optical readout and does not require specialised equipment.

After the loss of a trait, theory predicts that the molecular machinery underlying its phenotypic expression should decay. Yet, empirical evidence is contrasting. Here, we test the hypotheses that (i) the molecular ground plan of a lost trait could persist due to pleiotropic effects on other traits and (ii) that gene co-expression network architecture could constrain individual gene expression.

Nerve agents are becoming serious issues for the healthy and sustainable environment of modern civilization. Therefore, its detection and degradation are of paramount importance to the scientific community. In the present contribution, we have introduced a chromo-fluorogenic pyrene-based probe, (E)-2-methoxy-3-(pyren-1-ylimino)-3,8a-dihydro-2H-chromen-4-ol (PMCO) to detect sarin stimulant diethylchlorophosphate (DCP) in solution and gaseous phases.

The simplicity of synthesis, significant toxicity of organophosphorus-containing nerve agents, and ease of use of their in-terrorism attacks highlight the necessity to create efficient probes and precise methods for detecting these chemicals. This study developed luminogenic probe 4-(1 H-phenanthrene imidazole-2-yl) benzaldehyde, PB for selectively recognizing lethal chemical sarin mimicking diethylchlorophosphate (DCP) with µM detection limit. Following the addition of DCP to the PB solution, the fluorescence changed from bluish-cyan to green simultaneously; after the insertion of triethylamine (TEA) into the PB-DCP phosphorylated solution, the fluorescence of the original one came back, and it occurred five times.
