Herbal medicines represent viable alternatives to the synthetic drugs currently employed in the control of hypertension. Local anesthetics are commonly used in various clinical settings for both prevention and symptom relief. Numerous clinical studies have demonstrated that intra-articular injections of local anesthetics achieve high success rates in orthopedic practices. However, several widely used local anesthetics, including bupivacaine, lidocaine, and ropivacaine, have been shown to exhibit toxicity to chondrocytes, with the underlying mechanisms of chondrotoxicity remaining poorly understood.

Background: The ionic mechanism underlying Brugada syndrome (BrS) arises from an imbalance in transient outward current flow between the epicardium and endocardium. Previous studies report that artemisinin, originally derived from a Chinese herb for antimalarial use, inhibits the Ito current in canines. In a prior study, we showed the antiarrhythmic effects of artemisinin in BrS wedge preparation models.

Sotalol, a class III antiarrhythmic agent, is used to maintain sinus rhythm in patients with atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter (AFIB/AFL). Despite its efficacy, sotalol's use is limited by its potential to cause life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias due to QT interval prolongation. Traditionally, sotalol administration required hospitalization to monitor these risks.
