Published: September 1997

Biological phenomena are the principal agents in triggering hip prosthesis aseptic loosening. The authors report the results of "in vivo" and "in vitro" and Raman-laser experimental tests, which confirm the validity of the ceramic-ceramic combination in relation to the amount of wear and biocompatibility of friction materials.

Microcystin LR (MC-LR) pollution is a serious threat to aquatic ecosystems and public health in China and is an environmental problem that urgently needs to be solved. However, few studies have investigated the anaerobic degradation pathway and related molecular biological mechanisms of MC-LR. In this study, a bacterium capable of degrading MC-LR with a degradation efficiency of 0.

A common problem when analyzing ancient DNA (aDNA) data is to identify the species which corresponds to the recovered aDNA sequence(s). The standard approach is to deploy sequence similarity based tools, such as BLAST. However, as aDNA reads may frequently stem from unsampled taxa due to extinction, it is likely that there is no exact match in any database.

Experiments have shown that predation-risk effects on prey fitness can be highly contingent on environmental conditions, suggesting a potential difficulty in generalizing risk effects on prey abundance in natural settings. Rather than study the influence of a particular controlled factor, we examine the problem with a novel approach. We examined the influence of risk effects in multiple experiments performed under similar study conditions.

Problem: Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is a critical pregnancy complication linked to increased perinatal morbidity and mortality. Inflammation plays a key role in FGR's pathophysiology, and systemic inflammation markers may serve as predictors. This study evaluates the role of various inflammation indices; systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI), pan-immune-inflammation value (PIV), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), lymphocyte-to-platelet ratio (LMR), monocyte-to-platelet ratio (MPR), aggregate systemic inflammation index (AISI), systemic coagulation inflammation index (SCII), and immature granulocyte percentage (IG%) in predicting FGR.

Paeoniflorin is a natural pharmaceutical ingredient with a widely biological activity. However, as a hydrophilic drug, the problem of low transdermal rate limits its clinical application. To overcome this shortage, LUVs were used as biocompatible carriers of paeoniflorin in this study.
