Forearm arterial flow was measured in 22 healthy first-time blood donors during a 300-ml. blood letting and during the subsequent recovery. Blood pressure (BP) was also taken simultaneously and forearm peripheral resistance calculated. Following a transient BP and flow increase due to tachycardia related to needle insertion, both systolic BP and flow progressively and significantly decreased, while resistance increased. In a further 22 sex- and aged-matched highly hypnotizable subjects, blood donation was simulated by means of verbal hypnotic suggestions. The BP, flow and resistance curves were similar to those obtained with the real blood letting, without any between-subject difference or group/time interaction. Mere hypnosis without suggestion of phlebotomy and the simple bed resting did not produce any effect. These results indicate that the hemodynamic changes observed during and after a blood loss are partly due to mental involvement rather than merely to the hydraulic effects of the removal of blood.

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture combined with ear tip bloodletting for insomnia with phlegm-fire disturbing heart.
Methods: A total of 60 cases with insomnia of phlegm-fire disturbing heart were selected, and the treatment of electroacupuncture combined with ear tip bloodletting was delivered. Acupuncture was applied at Yintang (GV24), Shenting (GV24), Sishencong (EX-HN1) and bilateral Shenmen (HT7), Quchi (LI11), Zhaohai (KI6), Shenmai (BL62), Fenglong (ST40), Neiting (ST4), Yintang (GV24) and Shenting (GV24) were connected to electroacupuncture, continuous wave, 2 Hz in frequency.

Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is a severe and persistent pain condition following herpes zoster infection. This case report details the analgesic effects of acupuncture combined with electroacupuncture in a 66-year-old male patient presenting with PHN and peripheral facial paralysis, who showed limited response to conventional treatment with corticosteroids and antiviral medications. Following a comprehensive treatment protocol, including pricking-cupping bloodletting, and targeted acupuncture, the patient experienced significant pain relief and improved facial nerve function.

Background: Phlebotomy has been used as a non-pharmacological treatment for different types of diseases, regarding the philosophy of humors in traditional medicines, such as Persian Medicine. However, according to the narrow-approved indications for phlebotomy in Western Medicine, we aimed to systematically summarize high-level of evidence on safety and efficacy of phlebotomy in treatment of human diseases.
Methods: In this umbrella review, to identify meta-analysis studies of clinical trials on phlebotomy, four electronic databases, including PubMed, web of science, Scopus, and Cochran library were searched until Jun 18, 2022 with relevant keywords for 'phlebotomy' and 'meta-analysis' according to PRISMA guidelines and PICO questions.

In the previous article, the author demonstrated the close relationship between bloodletting practices in medieval Europe and acupuncture in Traditional Chinese Medicine. This study aimed to explore how acupuncture-based treatment was applied in medieval Europe. The author hypothesizes that the physical stimulation of acupuncture points associated with bloodletting was one of the main methods of pain management at that time.

Patients And Methods: Materials and Methods: Endotheliocytes of the arterial and venous bed of the left and right testes of 60 white male rats, which were divided into two groups, were morphologically studied. The 1 group consisted of 30 intact animals, the 2 - 30 rats, which were daily intragastrically injected with a 30 % ethanol solution at the rate of 2 ml per 100 g of the animal's weight for 28 days.
