Reduced Intratendinous Sliding in Achilles Tendinopathy During Active Plantarflexion Regardless of Horizontal Foot Position.

Scand J Med Sci Sports

June 2024

Human Movement Biomechanics Research Group, Department of Movement Sciences, KU Leuven, Leuven, Belgium.

Purpose: The Achilles tendon consists of three subtendons with the ability to slide relative to each other. As optimal intratendinous sliding is thought to reduce the overall stress in the tendon, alterations in sliding behavior could potentially play a role in the development of Achilles tendinopathy. The aims of this study were to investigate the difference in intratendinous sliding within the Achilles tendon during isometric contractions between asymptomatic controls and patients with Achilles tendinopathy and the effect of changing the horizontal foot position on intratendinous sliding in both groups.

Osteoid osteoma is a benign osteoblastic tumor with a low incidence. Due to its uncommon and often confusing clinical presentation, accurate diagnosis is frequently significantly delayed. We report a case of a 56-year old right-handed woman with a history of increasing pain in her right scaphotrapeziotrapezoidal (STT) joint and distal flexor carpi radialis (FCR).

Introduction: According to the literature only sparse data are available on the use of high-dose-rate intraoperative brachytherapy (IOHDR-BT) as a boost to external-beam irradiation (EBRT) in combination with a wide resection in patients with high-grade soft tissue sarcomas (STS).

Materials And Methods: Applying a retrospective study design, we investigated all patients who between 2010 and 2016 underwent marginal resection of a high-grade STS and intraoperative radiotherapy, followed by EBRT. We included only patients with a traceable follow-up time of at least two years.

Background: Para-aortic lymph node (PALN) metastases from primary pelvic malignancies are often treated with resection, but recurrence is common. We report toxicity and oncologic outcomes for patients with PALN metastases from gastrointestinal and gynecologic malignancies treated with resection and intraoperative electron radiotherapy (IORT).

Methods: We retrospectively identified patients with recurrent PALN metastases who underwent resection with IORT.
