Primary human hepatocytes (PHHs) are the preferred cell source to address liver function. Despite originating from the native tissue, one of the bottlenecks when using primary material is the donor-to-donor variability. Cryopreserved PHHs offer a high number of cells from the same donor and standardization of cell isolation and cryopreservation procedures, mitigating some of the inter-donor variability.

The evolution of oxygenic photosynthesis during the Archean (4-2.5 Ga) required the presence of complementary reducing pathways to maintain the cellular redox balance. While the timing of the evolution of superoxide dismutases (SODs), enzymes that convert superoxide to hydrogen peroxide and O, within bacteria and archaea is not resolved, the first SODs appearing in cyanobacteria contained copper and zinc in the reaction center (CuZnSOD).

The development of defect-free flint glass for use in telescopes and navigational instruments was a key technological challenge facing European chemists, natural philosophers, and artisans that emerged in the 1750s. In 1805, Pierre-Louis Guinand, a Swiss artisan, invented a fireclay stirrer used to stir molten flint glass to create a homogenous mixture relatively free of defects. In this paper, I show it was not Guinand, but French chemist Antoine Baumé, who first came up with the idea of using a fireclay stirrer.

The flocculation dynamics of algal cultures using alum and aqueous seed extracts as flocculants were analyzed through light scattering and fractal analysis. Floc growth in continuously stirred suspensions, with cell densities ranging from 200 to 800 μg L chlorophyll (Chl ), exhibited distinct patterns in fractal dimension () evolution relative to floc size: a smooth, monotonic increase; stochastic increase; and stabilization or leveling off. values ranged from 1.
