Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL) are common malignant tumors in children and adolescents. Among them diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCL) are relatively rare as compared to non-cleaved small cell lymphoma (mostly Burkitt's-BL) and lymphoblastic lymphoma (LL). While BL has abdominal or cervical site predilection, LL (mostly T-cell) tends to have mediastinal involvement.

Peritoneal Lymphomatosis Imaged by F-18 FDG PET/CT.

Nucl Med Mol Imaging

June 2010

Department of Nuclear Medicine, Korea University Anam Hospital, Korea University College of Medicine, 126-1, Anam-dong 5 ga, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, 136-705 Korea.

Peritoneal lymphomatosis is uncommon, but when encountered is associated with aggressive histological subtypes of high-grade lymphoma, such as small-cell, large-cell, mixed large and small cell, non-cleaved, lymphoblastic Burkitt-like, and diffuse large B cell lymphomas. The CT findings of peritoneal lymphomatosis are linear or nodular peritoneal thickening, retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy, omental and mesenteric involvement with streak-like infiltrations or a bulky mass, bowel wall thickening, hepatosplenomegaly, and ascites. The authors report the first FDG PET/CT images of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of small bowel origin associated with peritoneal lymphomatosis in a 69-year-old man.

CD31 immunoreactivity in small round cell tumors.

Appl Immunohistochem Mol Morphol

March 2000

Lauren V. Ackerman Laboratory of Surgical Pathology, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

CD31 has been shown to be a sensitive and specific marker for endothelial differentiation among epithelioid and spindled-pleomorphic human neoplasms. However, the role of this marker in the evaluation of small round cell tumors has not been evaluated. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections from 276 small round cell tumors, including 85 Ewing's sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumors (ES/PNET), 52 rhabdomyosarcomas, 10 extraabdominal polyphenotypic small cell tumors, six desmoplastic small cell tumors, 11 neuroblastomas, 23 Wilms' tumors, 20 retinoblastomas, 13 esthesioneuroblastomas, and 56 small cell malignant lymphomas were stained with CD31 (JC/70A, 1:40), using a modified avidinbiotin-peroxidase complex technique, after citrate buffer microwave epitope retrieval.

Case information and histologic slides for 688 admissions of feline tissues from 12 veterinary institutions were assembled and reviewed to determine tissues obtained by biopsy or necropsy, age and sex of cat, tumor topography, feline leukemia viral antigen status, histologic frequency of mitoses, diagnosis, presence of necrosis, and presence and degree of sclerosis. Histologic sections were examined to place the lesions in one of the diagnostic categories of the National Cancer Institute working formulation (NCI WF) for lymphomas or lymphoid leukemia. Correlations between the various factors determined were tested using contingency tables and chi-square analysis to provide a statistical comparison between the levels of observations determined by case examination with the numbers expected from chance alone.

Chemotaxis in leukocytes is mediated through binding of soluble chemokines to transmembrane G-protein coupled receptors. The chemokine receptor CXCR3 has been previously shown to be widely expressed on activated T cells and to mediate T-cell chemotaxis on binding to various ligands, including Mig, IP-10, and ITAC. By using immunohistochemical and flow cytometric analysis, we report that CXCR3 is also expressed on a subset of peripheral blood B cells and in distinct subtypes of B-cell lymphoma.
