The topically anesthesizing action and acute toxicity of two polymetric derivatives of novocaine-celnovocaine and polynovocaine No 5 (PN-5) were studied. The polymeric derivatives differ in the orientation of the novocaine molecule with respect to the macro-molecule of the water-soluble polymer-the modified cellulose. In celnovocaine novocaine joins the macromolecule through the intermediary of diethylamino-ethanol nitrogen and in PN-5-through the intermediary of paraaminobenzoic acid nitrogen. The ratio of the polymer-carrier (mol. weight 20 000-26 000) to novocaine is 1:1. The chemical bonding between novacaine and modified cellulose potentiates ad prolongs the infiltrative and terminal anesthesia, without changing (PN-5) or lowering (celnovocaine) the toxicity. The extent to which the action and duration of the effect, as well as changes in the toxicity depend upon the orientation of the novocaine molecule relative to the water-soluble polymer molecule.

Passive radiative cooling technology serves as an energy-free alternative to traditional cooling systems. Porous polymer structures are frequently employed for radiative cooling by leveraging the refractive index mismatch between the polymer and the pores, enabling the scattering of incoming sunlight. Recently, water-soluble and readily available Sodium chloride (NaCl) particles have been utilized as sacrificial templates for sustainable pore creation.

Superhydrophobic surfaces have attracted tremendous attention due to their intriguing lotus-leaf-like water-repelling phenomenon and wide applications, however, most superhydrophobic coatings are prepared with environmentally unfriendly organic solvents and suffer from poor mechanical strength. To solve these issues, waterborne recoatable superhydrophobic (WRSH) coatings are developed based on a novel self-synthesized water-soluble fluorinated acrylic polymer and hydrophobic modified silica nanoparticles. The trade-off between waterborne and superhydrophobicity is well mediated by protonation and deprotonation of the fluorinated acrylic polymer.

With the advancement of ecological and environmental protection construction, the research on the modification of expansive soil using environmentally friendly polymers can make up for the harm to the ecological environment caused by traditional modification. Mechanical and microscopic properties of modified expansive soils were analyzed through indoor tests. The results showed that the liquid limit and plasticity index decreased by 52.

Nowadays, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has emerged as one of the major hazards to the health of the upper gastrointestinal tract, and there is an urgent need for a low-cost, user-friendly, and non-invasive detection method. Herein, a paper-based sensor (CP sensor) for the non-invasive screening of GERD is proposed. The sensor is structured as a specially shaped cellulose paper strip embedded with fluorescent colloids, which are self-assembled from a cleavable synthetic fluorescent polymer (P4).

Arsenocholine-containing methacrylate (MTAsB) inspired by marine organisms was synthesized by the reaction of 2-bromoethyl methacrylate and trimethylarsine to investigate its polymerization behavior and the fundamental properties of the resulting polymer. Controlled radical polymerization of MTAsB proceeded in the presence of a copper catalyst and imidazolium chloride at 60 °C for 8 h to give a water-soluble polycation with a 94% yield. The smaller amount of nonfreezing water and intermediate water of poly(MTAsB) was observed compared with that of the ammonium-containing polycations.
