A 3.5-year-old girl suffered from a penetrating injury of the left eye. One and a half years later epithelial ingrowth was detected. Although block-excision was performed in the usual manner without technical problems the retina was excised accidentally. Histology revealed that the retina had been massively displaced in anterior direction prior to surgery because of fibrovascular proliferations.

The clinical and pathological findings in a two-month old girl having partial trisomy 15, are presented. The patient showed bilateral microphthalmia accompanied by a retrolental mass in her left eye. She underwent vitrectomy, lensectomy and accidental retinectomy.
