This paper examines the association between social networks and contraceptive use. Using data from a survey of women belonging to voluntary associations in Yaoundé, Cameroon, we find that the behavior and characteristics of the members of a respondent's personal networks are associated with her contraceptive use, over and above a set of her own individual characteristics that are usually found to be important. Respondents who report that their network partners approve of contraception, use it, and encourage the respondent to use are more likely to use contraception themselves; the association with encouragement is particularly strong. Moreover, there is a strong association between the specific methods of contraception used by a respondent and those used by her network partners, suggesting that members of personal networks exchange and evaluate specific methods. Because most of the respondent's network partners were interviewed, we are able to compare the respondent's perceptions of contraceptive use by her network partners with the network partner's actual use. We find that it is perceptions of use that matter, even if those perception are incorrect.

The regulation of cell physiology depends largely upon interactions of functionally distinct proteins and cellular components. These interactions may be transient or long-lived, but often affect protein motion. Measurement of protein dynamics within a cellular environment, particularly while perturbing protein function with small molecules, may enable dissection of key interactions and facilitate drug discovery; however, current approaches are limited by throughput with respect to data acquisition and analysis.

Epithelial cells can become polyploid upon tissue injury, but mechanosensitive cues that trigger this state are poorly understood. Using an Madin Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK) cell knock-out/reconstitution system, we show that α-catenin mutants that alter force-sensitive binding to F-actin or middle (M)-domain promote cytokinesis failure and binucleation, particularly near epithelial wound-fronts. We identified Leucine Zipper Tumor Suppressor 2 (LZTS2), a factor previously implicated in abscission, as a conformation sensitive proximity partner of α-catenin.

Purpose To assess the prognostic implications of cardiac MRI-derived imaging markers in individuals with severe aortic stenosis (AS). Background: There is a consensus in the Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) community that data sharing can accelerate science leading to better biomarkers, treatments and preventative measures. However, the ADRD community faces extensive challenges when it comes to sharing of complex biomarker data due to heavy-handed data sharing mandates and various types of restrictions.
Methods: The Global Alzheimer's Association Interactive Network (GAAIN) and the Alzheimer's Disease (AD) Data Initiative have pioneered methods in federated data sharing and learning methodologies by allowing data partners to share their data while protecting their data ownership rights.
