Dermatology evolved in the second part of the last century as a branch of internal medicine and was for many years confined to morphologic descriptions. Skin diseases are common and vary enormously in severity. Although most of the conditions are not life threatening, many of them are debilitating due to functional loss, pain and itch, and the social problems they cause. Skin diseases are a major public health problem in developing countries. After the second world war there has been an explosion both in the amount of scientific knowledge and with regard to the treatment of dermatoses, many of which can now be managed adequately. The dermatologist is also involved in prevention of skin diseases, as e.g. contact dermatitis and malignant tumors of the skin. Increasing specialisation within dermatology has become more common with the expansion of expertise in dermatopathology, photodermatology, contact dermatology, dermatological surgery, dermatologic pediatrics, phlebology. There are too many dermatologists in our country. If an increasing role in caring for minor skin diseases would be assigned to the generalist, the government he will have to decide how contraction of dermatology manpower would occur and how the dermatology training of the generalist should be improved.

Single cell studies have transformed our understanding of cellular heterogeneity in disease but the need for fresh starting material can be an obstacle, especially in the context of international multicenter studies and archived tissue. We developed a protocol to obtain high-quality cells and nuclei from dissected human skeletal muscle archived in the preservative Allprotect® Tissue Reagent. After fluorescent imaging microscopy confirmed intact nuclei, we performed four protocol variations that compared sequencing metrics between cells and nuclei enriched by either filtering or flow cytometry sorting.

A man in his 60s suffered from refractory, biopsy-proven subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus that required chronic, moderate dose steroids to manage. His rash was accompanied by arthralgias and negative autoantibody testing. His subacute lupus erythematosus (SCLE) was responsive to tofacitinib, but thrombotic complications limited the use of this medication.

Pediatric antibiotic labels are common, and unnecessary antibiotic avoidance is associated with negative personal and public health outcomes; as a result, there is an increasing emphasis on the importance of pediatric antibiotic allergy evaluations. Different testing strategies have been advised, including skin testing and challenge testing with varied doses and duration. Established consensus testing protocols are lacking.

Ichthyoses are a heterogeneous group of diseases sharing symptoms and a common etiopathogenic mechanism. Clinically, these diseases are characterized by the presence of erythema and variable degrees of skin thickening and desquamation. Although the affected area, severity, and molecular substrate are very variable, they are all signs of a disruption of the barrier formed during epidermal differentiation.

Background: The goal of this study was to examine autonomic nervous system function by measuring heart rate (HR), heart rate variability (HRV), skin conductance levels (SCL), and peripheral skin temperature (ST) in response to and during recovery from psychosocial stressors in patients with functional somatic syndromes (FSS; fibromyalgia and/or chronic fatigue syndrome), stress-related syndromes (SRS; overstrain or burn-out), and healthy controls (HC).

Methods: Patients with FSS (n = 26), patients with SRS (n = 59), and HC (n = 30) went through a standardized psychosocial stress test consisting of a resting phase (120 s), the STROOP color word task (120 s), a mental arithmetic task (120 s) and a stress talk (120 s), each followed by a 120 s recovery period. HR, HRV, SCL, and ST were monitored continuously.
